True or Not? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #47610 5 posts Started by Lazurus
I blew my 7afe almost 2 years ago and really wanted to save up and put a 3sgte in it but i have decided to just fix this celics for my GF to have a daily driver and I plan to buy myself a GT to put a 3sgte in. So is a 5afe in fact a direct swap? I have seen that its a cheap engine. So anyone who has done this swap or has information on the subject please help.

Thanks LAZ
i retract my statement after reading your post....

whats a 5afe? (u mentioned 7afe, so i figure u know that the 7afe is the stock 1.8l ST motor.)

The 5sfe is the stock motor for the GT, its a 2.2l, and if thats what u mean...then ull need different motor mounts. (along with axles, tranny, and countless other smaller items...ie the slavecylinder...[i believe the st is slightly smaller])

I see where your going with it, good idea, just alot more work then its probally worth.

NM I though you wrote 5SFE.

I will return one day.
the 5afe is a 1.5L 4 cylinder A block engine. if you do swap it in make sure you get the harness and pcm along with the motor!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_A_engine#5A see if you can get the '3rd' gen of the motor, it makes numbers similar to a 4afe.

and yes, the 5afe should fit pretty easily and should use the same trans bolt pattern/same mounts. just make sure you get a complete engine with accessories, sensors, harness, pcm as there could be some differences there.
