350 or wrx? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #47545 46 posts Started by dustin15brown
I'm not really sure what to do. I'll be getting a new car sometime soon I believe and I LOVE the 350z. Absolutely love it, but at 287hp and rwd it could provide huge problems during the winters. Which is why I'm considering the WRX. At 227 hp and AWD it seems more practical. What are your guys' opinions? Looks wise I love the Z, my little brother has an 05 impreza rs and I like it.... But I'm not sure how much different the WRX would be.
350 = understeer
wrx = better balance and boosted
looks wise...350z ftw
G35 Coupe.

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
I voted WRX and make it STI but I def second the G35 Coupe. I would def get that over the other two.
Pros:
350z is better looking.
I personally think the 350z is MUCH more fun to drive.
Its an actual sports car.
2 seater - don't have to drive people.

Cons:
What to do in winter?
2 seater, hardly any trunk space.

lol

and then take pictures of your snow carving artwork.

anyway.. I live in So Cal, therefore I don't understand the problem of driving during winter.. but can't u just get a whatever $1000 beat-up car for winter driving?

-TomazWSwww.tomazws.com
for me it'll be WRX. i mean both cars are fun, can be modded into some crazy fast beast.. RWD have their pros and so does AWD... but to me... the WRX just seems more pratical. 4 dr, huge trunk and more leg room. but the 350z does have a better looking and more comfortable interior.

Turbo install made possible thanks toTeamJ.D.M.officially 5SFTE junior member~*MuH NeW RiDe*~
The size doesn't matter to me nor does trunk space... But chances are I will have either this or the celica out in the winter... so that is my concern now... I cannot afford a G35 or STi... so they're not even options.. EVerywhere I go to seriously read up on WRX's they seem to have tranny issues... and I'm not sure if I want to deal with a turbo just yet or not
Drift... 350Z

Have you driven either of these cars yet? If not - take them out for a spin. This wouldnt even be a contest for me because the 350z would be a no brainer.

you know my option - nothing beats a boxer engine sound.

Except the exhaust note on the 350z wink.gif

yeah, i've driven a 350z and i seriously love the hell out of it... I wont be drifting because I think it's not very inteligent. But I guess, like I've already said, it comes down to ability to handle the winters with the Z... I've never had an AWD car, other than driving my little brothers, so I'm not sure HOW much better it'll be in bad weather... and the z does have tcs and it is a manual... so i think it's doable

psh AWD doughnuts > rwd doughnuts

cause AWD spins on a central axis making actual circles biggrin.gif

Boxer engine sound > 350 can any day
turbos are easy to deal with esp OEM

and don't rely on TCS to keep you unstuck...it doesn't do much besides cut your throttle some..
350 has little chance in anything above an 1 or 2 of snow...i know cause i passed them all sitting on the side of the road stuck laugh.gif

I turn the TCS off everytime I get in the Z because it basically just cuts power and VERY annoying. I'd get a winter wrecker if you got the Z. Or Keep the Celi.

Everything else the Z is just so much cooler a car, more fun, RWD>AWD in the summer, central axis donuts? Lame.

Winter sucks.

MyFlickrMyeBay_Perpetual Aperture_
ok the short of it is....move! **** winter.

on a serious note tho, if u did eliminate winter, which would u get? U have about 7ish to 8ish months till you have to cross the "winter" bridge...i say get the one u want, and cross that bridge when u get to it.

oh and WRX sounds bad ass with a nice exhaust

and as my friend just pointed out over on E46 forums

if you know the sound Chewbacca makes from starwars....yea thats how a Z sounds laugh.gif
not thinking ahead.... not something i'm going to do
the Z>wrx in the sound department
looks z>wrx
style in and out z>wrx
practicality z<wrx
insurance z<wrx
winter z<wrx
there are SOOOOO many wrx's on the road... so the z is a lot more rare IMO...
but since i'm 19 the parents still have a say in it... and they're leaning towards the wrx because they love my little brothers rs so much...
350z with staggered wheels..
the exhaust noise....
the ability to drift if you ever get into that sport.

but the wrx has more room and more suited for daily drivers.

WRX tranny = CRAP! Unless you get an STI.
wrx allllll the way.... that's a no brainer for me anyway... i dont like 350z's

Must be regional because in houston 350Z's and G35 Coupes are EVERYWHERE. Everyone and their Grandmaother [literally] drive those things around. And then again when I go to Oregon all I see are WRX's everywhere so must be regional.
ever thought of an Lancer Evolution? (hmm might not be as available over in the USA)
WRX is a very nice car, my dad had a 99 Model putting out 180awkws with VF34 turbo, but sold it because it always had ****ty little niggly problems, guess its the age. but now we've got EVO IX and they have a lot more potential than a wrx, look hotter (IMHO) and they sound like jets
The Evo is the same price as the STI and he doesn't want an STI.

I live with snow 4 months out of the year, and my personal opinoin is and always will be that when it comes to snow it depends on the tires and the driver. I have personally driven awd suby's and audi's and AWD is the best for snow period. But i have seen mustangs with snow tires go through winter and make it out okay. If you have agressive snow tires and a light foot, winter won't be a problem. I love the looks of the Z's and i would only own an STI if i where to own a subaru so if the sti is out of your range, take it easy in the winter and go with the Z

Heres a pic i took the other day of my friends
