Hey all,

I just put 18's with lo profile tires on my baby, and now it has such a big gap under the fender it really needs lowering.

I want to know the proper way to lower without damagin shocks and other parts of the car.

The tein springs interest me ad i think a 2" in the back and 1" in the front frop would suffice. A buddy told me that you shouldn't just buy springs as this will ruin the shocks.

What if i get springs and coil overs? will that ruin anything...or have wear and tare on the shocks. I am looking for something cheap, but most importantly i want it done properly. With lower, good handling, and wont hurt shocks or any other parts of the car.

What do you guys suggest. I may need more drop than what the tien springs provide.

teins are good, if you go with coilovers and springs the only problem you'll have the you're gonna run out of places where to install them. you either get springs + shocks/strut or coilovers ( some comes wiht shocks/strut included like teins coilovers and some others require shocks/strut like ground control coilovers )

the cheapest proper way I think is teins springs + KYB GR-2 , it is recomended that you get new shocks/struts when you lower your car and after 1 -2 weeks on installed don't forget get an aligment done.

Am I right to underdstand then, that I either get springs and shocks, or just coilovers? I mean if i get coilovers I dont need springs or shocks?

Which is beter for the car, in terms of maintenance and performance, springs and shocks, or coilovers? Which is cheaper?

Cheapest way would be kyb gr2's with some tein s techs. That set-up would run you at around 500. Depends on where you go.

If you go the coilover suspension set-up like the tein basic coilover set-up you're looking at around 1200.

Don't get the cheap ebay coil overs because they are just going to blow your struts. If I were you go with the tein s techs and if your shocks and struts are still in decent shape and you want to go even cheaper just drop it with the springs without the shocks and strut upgrade. Technically the kyb gr2's aren't an upgrade since it is an oem replacement part.

another alternative is the ksports....ebay has them for $800 for th 6gc...they are a good coilover, a friend of mine had them on his Lexus ES and they rode beautiful!

True. But I wouldn't trust them. If I were to do a serious suspension upgrade, I'd go with tein coilovers.

I have used my D2 coilovers for about 25.000km no problems so far... So I don't think you chould worry to much about them.

the new springs have a shorter displacement so they'll be harder on your old shocks/struts, the point is, if you don't install new ones with the new springs they'll go out soon and you'll have to replace them anyways so is easier / cheaper to replace everything at once

Yep, hes right. Its best while you have everything out as is. Rather then having to rip everything out 2 times. Be sure to replace your top strut mounts when you put springs in also. Otherwise the old ones are liable to crack and clunk every time you hit a bump.

so if i get the tein s-techs and the kyb gr2's, what else do i need. and also how hard is it to install the shocks/struts. thanks for the help im planning on doing it myself sometime soon, but ive never done it before.

you don't HAVE to, but he asked for the properly way to do this, and when you're lowering a car you're putting more stress on suspension components so is the best to install this stuff new so they can hanlde the extra stress for longer than old parts.

teins drop is not that low, so this can help save your shocks.

Wouldn't properly lowering a car require that you get the car aligned? Which brings me to my next question. Do they make a camber kit for our cars?

yes they make one, eibach, ingalls, and some others make a kit found on ebay...or go to dealer and get crash bolts for $2 each. need 4.
