well, why do LIONS have whiskers?
my cat uses his whiskers like feelers
I thought they were feelers for not running into things, but sea lions are under water all the time, do they use them as feelers underwater?

yes.. they poke there nose under rocks and stuff to feel if there are food there.

Sea lions are tactile mammals. Their whiskers contain nerve fibers, which make them sensitive. They may use their whiskers to aid in navigation or to detect vibrations from prey in the water.

are they the only tactile mammals that live underwater? Why don't dolphins get whiskers?

how about beavers, otters, walruses, seals, muskrats, etc.. they all have whiskers. i'm no animal expert but i think they all belong in the same family.

yeah, I don't know why I didn't think about any of those, I was just thinking sea lion and seal. I guess like a human's evolution from primates, did the sea lion evolve from the dog or something?

do dolphins ever come onto land to sun bath? no...

dolphins dont need whiskers because they have sonar. They can see fish better then the whisker technology. Since dolphin's spend more time in the water, they had to evolve/specialize more then the half land/half water Users.
