On page 53 of the August Super Street issue, Import Trenz used my car to advertise the Invader kit without my permission. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't want to be a dick and sue, but should they owe me something in return? They did afterall steal a picture of my car and use it without my permission. Let me know what you think guys.

hehehe why are you complaining? I would be honered to have my car used in a super street ad =) Yeah, I guess it's wrong. You got a pic of it being used in superstreet?
damn I just looked in your profile, and I all i have to say is that your car is really really nice =)
Thanks man. It's okay, not very original I'm afraid but I'm trying!
Yo If I were you I would call them up and ask for some kick back since they used your car, get some sponser money or something. They are making money off of you so its only fair that you see some of it. Im sure if your nice about it and ask if they could use your car more you might get a good deal. But I dont think you can do anything legaly because iyou cant copyright a car and you were in a public place so its fair game.
That's exactly what I thought and exactly what I asked them. Hopefully they're respectable about this whole situation and will cooperate. We'll see. Afterall, with all the body kit distributors nowadays they could use all the help they could get!
...a Celica, in Super Street? How odd that they finally put a car other than a Honda in there.

nooo, I think its called using so and so of someones to endorse something without their permission, that is illegal, they are making money off something you created. its like music, videos art and intellectual stuff, spread it around for free but when you start making money off someone elses work thats were it gets illegal.
They are obviously making a profit off your work, Call your lawyer if they dont work with you, eerrr id call a lawyer first before talking with them.
remember you car is your art its your intellectual property and its all yours

You should definitely contact them AND Super Street to let them know about the situation. Your car is obviously a show car and you should be more than just honored to see your car used illegally. Demand compensation, or sue for it.

The difference between makin money off of music, art, videos and other stuff is the fact that all that stuff is copyrighted or the musician or whatever is under some kinda contract not to have their stuff duplicated or endorsed without their permission. In this case it is completely different from this since he isnt under some contract or copyrighted obviously...but i agree with everybody else when they say that u should get somethin out of this and thats friggin awesome that your car is shown in Super Street. >

Well, thanks for all the support. It's quite overwhelming. They haven't responded to my e-mail so I'll be calling them today probably. And if they do give me a discount, you guys will be the first to know! I don't want to cause a whole dispute over a small picture, but I feel violated as much as I feel flattered. I know you guys understand. Thanks again.
good luck calling them and by the way realy nice ride man
Its a violation of your personal rights(privacy I think) to use something of yours in a magazine without your permission. Just ask any lawyer... they should give you some kind of reparations... if not there are plenty of Liars I mean lawyers waiting to make money of an easy case like this
I hope something good comes out of this. I try to make the car nice for me, glad to see others have appreciated it. Trying to represent 6th gens the best I can! I'll let you guys know how it goes, maybe we'll get some kind of 6gc discount!
yeah that's sweet but sucks about the money thing, sweet car
To be honest, I cannot see you getting any money out of this at all. There are lots of people who would want to be where you are. I do know that on public property you can take pictures of anything, whether or not you can use them to sell something... yea.
I wouldn't bother getting a lawyer, but I would call up import trendz or whatever, and ask immediately to speak to the editor or whatever, and then ask that your name be put in there. That's the most I think you'd get.
I'm not asking for money and I'm not about to sue the company. It's really not all that important, I already have a kit so it's even less of a big deal. I just figure if they want my car to help them out, they need to return the favor. If they want to sponsor me and I advertise for them, then everyone's happy. Thanks for ALL the help, there's no community like the 6th generation Celica community!
