mr2 trans. conversion update - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #45917 8 posts Started by toyotacrazy
Ok so I just got my mr2 turbo transmission in my car and took it for a spin today. There is a loud grumbling noise/vibration on acceleration and decel. only. kindasad.gif Im feeling like its drive axles, but I had them apart and lubricated them and they looked fine. On the driveres side I did use the mr2 inner space and boot assembly. But I used the mr2 inner shaft that goes into the transmission. I used a full spacer (OEM axle spacer) on the passenger side. I didnt use one on the driver side. When I have the front jacked up and spin the wheels the side Im turning spins ok. The other side doesnt move unless I go to the other side and move it by hand. Everthing seems in place and tight. With the car on the ground the axles look straight. I used the st205 rear and drivers motor mounts. Any ideas what may be wrong?????? Thanks

Ok Im relisting this on the mr2 short axle solution. I think my spacer is too wide.
Are you sure all your lug nuts are tight? Seems like a silly question, but that will cause exactly what you're describing.

Yes. The lugs are torqued. The axle on the pass. side seems to be binding. Im pretty sure thats what Im feeling/hearing. It just kinda feels like a drive axle issue.
Of those OEM "spacers" you mean the metal pieces with the grooves in the center in between the inner & outter axles correct?

If you got 2 full of those in between and managed to put the wheel back on I'd be amazed. I couldnt do it. I was about 1'' to long of an axle for me to put the hub in the axle. I had to CNC machine it down to about 1/2 the size.

I also have a noise of some sort; I cant be sure but I think its my carrier bearing.

Yes I got it in with 2 OEM spacers. And drove the car. I unbolted the lower ball joint with the 2 nuts and 1 bolt. I made 3 spacers all different sizes so I can hopefully get it back on the road tonight. Any suggestions what size I need? Thanks for the interest!
did you use the angel clips on the axles. without em your axles could vibrate

Do you mean the c-clips that come with the oem axles?
