converting 4 speaker to 8 speaker - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #45895 10 posts Started by CelicaST_CALI
I have seen a bunch of celicas with 8 speakers all around.I was wonderinf if i can do this at home?Or do i have to take to to a shop?Do i have to get a new amp for all the new speakers? Please leave suggestions

BANNED. for life, you moron.
i think it's very doable... it would be better to strip them off a parts car than buying them individually from the dealer (will cost you like $2k+ i dunno, but it won't be cheap).
but you're better off using an aftermarket amplifier instead of the stock one cuz the wiring will be too troublesome.

All you need are the door panels of an eight speaker system and just run an aftermarket amp instead of the factory one. Wait...just like azian said.

Most definitely.... Just like everyone said above....
Aftermarket amp to power the extra speaker channels.

Without an amp, you will only have 4 channels. 2 front and 2 back.
A lot of people have just bypassed the factory amp and wired a 4 channel head unit to their existing 6 or 8 speaker system. All this does is split the 4 channels across multiple speakers and pretty much, wasting the extra power.

Also, the 8 speaker system has an 8" speaker in the lower door panel, the 4 speaker setup only has a 6.5". The opening is the same size, just the smaller speaker has an 8" adapter.

Hope this helps

Are the 8 speaker door panels expensive? I really want to have 8 speakers instead of 4.

You can always make your own. The holes are in the door akready, you just need the cuts on the panel.
Just take it slow and make it look nice.

Get some cheap door panels from the junk yard and practice on them.... just cutting holes, and making a nice round frame. With a bit of work and effort, you can make some real nice speaker holes.

Thats sounds like a good idea but im really lazy and probadly wouldn't do it. It would be alot better for me just to buy the 8 speaker door panels. Does any know how much they cost and where i could get them from?
here are the necessary part numbers and prices to ask from your local dealer.. or just put the numbers in the Part Order entry at ToyotaWorld.com
(prices do not include nuts, screws, grommets, etc.)

fyi, you're better off buying the lower plastic trim and the speaker covers separately.. then cut your own hole through the door panel and glue the speaker covers in. that beats having to buy the entire door panel.
and just buy your own mid-speakers and just tap them through the metal.

in the end this is still a rather expensive project because you still have to run all the wiring through the door (which is a pain) and purchase your own amp(s) then do more wiring from there.
