Hi my celica has a 7afe and its really slow . My first gear is not so torquey. This is kind of a problem when i want to get into traffic. Sometimes i don't think i'm gonna make it but after i shift into 2nd i start to feel it pulling. Is this normal with at200's? anyway i love my 6g funnest car i ever owned, only car actually

Yes that is the best the engine will put out as far as HP goes. This is common for all AT200 chassis celica's with the 7afe engine. You can try your luck and install maybe a better exhaust and intake system to up the performance of your car at the most, but you will not see a drastic change in power. If you really need power and have the funds for it, then everyone including me would tell you to invest some money in an engine swap.

Intake, Header, Exhaust and a good tune up will really help out. Don't underestimate the tune up. I probably put more hp to the ground from from that than anything else. This will help even a 7afe motor pull harder in 1st and 2nd gears. Your max hp may not increase much, but throttle response and over all hp will.

the 7afe, for its size, has a pretty good torque curve. is your timing set correctly? plugs and wires in good condition? cap and rotor worn out? tires properly inflated?

how many miles? what are your compression numbers?

a swap would solve the problem but a broke student like me can't afford something like that. the intake, header and exhaust upgrades sound nice but unfortunately no job and no money. I think i could do the tune up. if i decide to do a tune up should i take it to a mechanic or do it myself? all i know about a tune up is ya change the spark plugs and wires, check the hoses, belts and stuff. i probably wouldn't know what i'm looking for when checking the hoses and belts

when it comes to cars i'm not really to mechanical.

to set the timing i would have to take that cover off and underneath that would be a chain right? i also don't have the tools to set the timing, what would i need to buy and how much is it roughly? about the spark plugs and wires i don't know but its been 1 1/2 years since i bought my celica. the tires were 3 psi less then then the recommended psi due to cold. i never had it taken in for a compression test but my celica has 179,000 miles on it

A tune up will cost more than the intake, header, exhaust. You replace all pulleys, all belts, new plugs, new wires, new ignition system, new fuildes in everything is a must. Then you open the motor up. For the top end; new gaskets, head work (clean off 179k of junk), check valve clearance, new cams/valves if needed. Then the bottem end is new bearings, rings, journals, oil pump, plus the price of having it acid washed or cleaned out and having the cylinders honed. I know I've forgotten at least something. That stuff adds up in price, but it really makes the motor come alive. I've spent a good 1.5k on my 5sfe, but it's a strong running almost new motor. You could get a 2nd gen 3sgte or a Silvertop 4age for that money, but it's going to need to have all that stuff done to it then anyway.

wow theres more to a tune up than i thought. that sounds like an aweful lot of work
