which bov???? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #44342 16 posts Started by toyotacrazy
I got my celica running recently. I put a stock 91 jdm 3sgte in it. I am now upgrading to a fmic. I now know that I need a bov. I want to recirculate it so my car will run at its best. This is my daily driver. In case I decide to vent it to the atmosphere, Do most bov's come with the option of buying a flange to unrecirculate them? Im also running kinda low on $ but if necessary will spend a little more. Any suggestions on which one to get would be greatly appriciated.
What do you guys suggest? Thanks

I'm about to buy one myself, im down to either the GReddy Type RS or the HKS SSQV. I beleive to get either of those to recirc you need to buy and extra piece unless they come with them. Either way they will vent to the atmosphere without buying an extra peice. You may need the extra peice to recirc them though.
If you are going to recirculate it, get the MR2T BPV.
It works. It's cheap. It is reliable and will not leak under boost.
Or you can pay $100 more for bling bling effect and get HKS and its recirculation kit.

How much is cheap? Do you mean used or new?

A used one goes for $50 or so and it's Toyota OEM part.

Don’t you need a double piston DV/BOV for an engine running a MAF/AFM?
Something like a Bailey DV26 (with a Subaru spring) maybe?
i'd go with the hks ssq...i had it on my mr2 turbo and boy it's loud and scares off people wink.gif

recirculated, you can hardly hear the SSQV, if at all.
if your looking for a cheap, stock like option, the mr2 BPV works perfectly and can usually be found cheap used over on mr2oc.
for aftermarket, the REAL Greddy and HKS units are proven performers.
the HKS operates on the same basic design as the OEM toyota one, and works excellently.

i have the forge 007 diverter valve and i love it, easy installation, all you need is to buy a flange from loews home plumbing, drill a hole in your IC piping, screw the flange in and cold weld around it!
The greatest BOVs in my opinion are the Tial and HKS SSQV. I also had a greddy type-s that I left the recirc valve open, so it vented to atmosphere (sounded awesome).

Unless your looking for a good BOV sound, they are all the same. The stock BOV is better and more reliable, and it will not give your car a crappy idle like some of these aftermarket ones.
^thats cause there is NO stock BOV

they have BPV stock which perform like a DV

When you buy a BOV from HKS for a 3sgte swap will the MR2 kit work?
sure thing,

What I have had is the BLITZ DD valve, twice lol, sounds sweeeeet.
I hope to buy a new kit soon so I can re-circ.
The design is good with its 2 ports, and has the adaptable sus filter so at least you wont suck in big dirt when it opens up.

No, the MR2 kit won't work.
It depends on your intercooler setup.
On the front mount setup, you need to have a flange welded on the IC pipe or IC end tank.
If you are using ST205 IC, you will need an adapter similar to this.
