im pretty sure there is a lot involved in replacing a timing belt, but i could be wrong. I usually am...
Have the shop do it. And $70 is a good price if that's parts and labor.
I am not 100% sure but they may have to lift the engine partly out, its a toughy.

doing the timing belt on the 5sfe motor is pretty easy. i've already done mine and it's simple task. you have to remove the alternator, and ur left engine mount. then u jack up the engine, then u will be able to take the timing cover off. make sure u mark all ur markings. get the manual it will show u how to do it.
alrighty thanks guys buying manual on friday when i get paid >smile.gif>
I'd say let a shop do it if that's an affordable option for you. Mine broke one time and I had to take my car to the Toyota dealer in town because I was in a huge bind and I think it cost around 200 for parts and labor (but I had all my belts replaced so that made it cost a little more). Good luck
SO I need one of those engine puller things to jack up the engine?
are you sure that it cost 70bucks to do because the belt it self is like 60bucks and according to all data it is a 2.5hr job. I wuld double check with the mechanic before i get him to do it.
i already bought the timing belt it was only 25$ from auto zone (aftermarket timing belt) i dont know if they r any good but what the heck worth a shot anyhow i read in the paper timing belt change 70$ on most cars so i was like sweet deal but i still think i might end up doing it myself even though its a pain in the arse... MY BABY IS STILL IN THE SHOP >frown.gif> WHEN MY SISTER HIT HER!!! AHHHHHH
