Wondering if the the center part of our 6th gen door panels come out. Wondering b/c i am trying to find out if i can take it out completely and recover it with leather..

I don't think that they do. I had a couple of upholstery shops look at mine when I was trying to replace the fabric insert and both places told me that the door was pressed into shape so it will not come out. And me working at it with a screw driver did nothing either .


edit: not that it will not come out, but that there is nothing to actually come out because it is all one piece

The door panel is 2 pieces, but I assume you are meaning the piece that already has fabric on it, which is actually part of the upper pice and therefore will not come out on its own.

Your best bet would be to remove the fabric and cut a piece of leather to match then spray glue it back onto the panel again.

the upper and lower parts of the door panel is two peice that are plastic welded, sorta like melting a plastic pin to make a rivet

?????? I know for a fact that the fabric goes UNDER the plastic so the center piece and the door panel are most likely two pieces. In other words, the fabric is NOT gluded to the center piece but is held there by the surrounding plastic.

^^True. out of pure boredom, i decided to conduct some cosmetic upgrades to my interior. the first thing that i did was remove the plastic on the inside of the door release which is held on by one screw. once it came out, you could clearly see the material excess that is clamped between the two plastics shells of the door panel.

BTW, i painted the interior parts scarlet red!

So... I believe door panel it sold as one part, however I saw that panel covered with cloth (not leather like mine is). It was from stock, not aftermarket. And color of that cloth was the same like color of seat coats. That's why I also believe you can take it out and recover for sure... somehow

my material is the same size as the section that it covers and it is glued on. not aftermarket either.

its one pace sept the bottum plastic/speaker cover (whole door panel is 2 peacesk, not counting the handel.) I tried to do it a while back but maid a mess of em because its hard to cut an exact match and glue it right. ended up getting premium door panels with the leather.

anyone thought of asking a trimmer? the door card insert you are talking about is one piece and does not come out, true the door card comes in two parts but as previously stated the second part is mearly the plastic part that coveres the speacker and holds the switches etc.

trimers have some little voodoo magic trics they do to make it look so ggod, not being one I can only tell you that the cut and pray jobs always look terrible, having tried years ago with a friends car, it look fantastic at first but every day use soon took its toll and the edges peel away! who is it on here that has put the evo seats in his car with door cards to match (looks awsome btw!) maybe ask him/his trimmer to let you in on the trade secret?
