Shield infront of the headers - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #4301 9 posts Started by TRDDawg
I saw some of celicas that members have and some don't have the shield infront of their header . Do u need it because mine is rusty and I either need to take it off or paint it? Does it damage your engine if u don't have it because I want it off?

On stock Celicas, there is usually a heat shield over the exhaust manifold. It's just to protect the wires and other engine parts from the massive amount of heat from the exhaust. I don't think you really need it though, if you were to buy aftermarket headers you'd be operating without a heat shield then as well. I had taken mine off and now with headers, still don't have one and nothing's melted yet. =)
The heat shield is used to keep the heat from the hot exhaust gases in. If you have headers, it would be recommended to get header wrap, which is just pretty much insulation. It's like $20 a roll, and a roll will do ya. It's worth it.
why does everyone call them headerS?

it's a header. no plural.

if you have a V-8, V-6, V-10, V-12...sure...headers...

but, we have an inline four...header.

You could also paint your stock manifold or header. I think you can get high-temp paint for it.
