So I just got my Tien S-techs yesterday and next weekend I'll be pulling my car into the garage and my dad and I are going to do it up. My question is that after reading the instructions which are a no brainer since i've put coilovers on.. it said i should cut my rubber stops in half? Has anyone else had to cut thier stoppers or should I just not worry?

I say dont worry about it, I just put on Sportlines, which i think are lower than S-techs. I didnt cut mine and havent had a problem yet.

i second that. I have the pro kit and i did not cut the rubber, now i dont know for sure if your talking about the rubber stop that goes on the gas strut or the rubber boot thing on the bottom of your strut where the spring lays, now that i think about it, its prob the rubber stopper, might have to cut it...sorry my post was worthless. I have S-techs and i cut mine in half, I also put S-techs on my g/f's eclipse and had to cut her stops in half also.

i cut mine. with the shorter coil springs, you effectively reduce the available suspension travel, and having the stock-length bump stop will make for some pretty gnarly bottom-outs depending on where you drive. michigan roads are pretty heinous, so i elected to just follow tein's suggestion and allow that extra bit of travel. if you decide to cut them, use a hacksaw...i tried more "accurate" methods and it just takes longer.

definitly cut them in half and use the thicker of the two halves for better shock absorption. If you dont cut them, it will keep your car from lowering about another half inch or so. Its just a better deal. Make sure what ever tool you use to cut, that it is sharpe enough to make a straight cut. It's not that hard, try it and youll be glad you did. Good Luck!

I guess i'll cut them a little but I always thought it wasn't good for the shock to compress that much and thats why the stopper is there. Anyone an expert on shocks?

they are there so if you were to bottom out, it wouldnt be so violent. Notice that if the stop wassent there. the top hat (metal) would hit that small perch on the shock (also metal) its just there for ride comfort. Cutting away at it will not affect you in any way. I cut mine in half when i had my Ground Control Coilovers on KYB shocks and it was perfect. At first i didnt and the car say a little higher. But after cutting them the car sat just a little bit lower and the ride quality was not affected.

My dad and i put the springs on. And my dads a mechanic, he also suggests that everyone that lowers there car should follow Tein's directions, thats why they send them with the springs.

I had the toyota stops, you need this when you lower your car cus if you hit a bump you will get a loud bang. I did not cut it in half, I just cut the top off. Theres 3 rings, I cut the top ring off. Ride feels better.

Since it's not a good idea to hit the strut itself and besides a razor blade does anyone have a different suggestion that worked for them?

Are you reffering to cutting the bump stop? becuase if you are, you dont cut it while its still on th shock. You'll have to compress the stock spring a litte to take the top-hat off. Then, once you have the top-hat off, you will simply be able to slide it off the shock and it will be easier to cut. Then you put it back on to the shock you'll be using followed by the the new spring and top-hat. Hope this helps.

And if your asking becuase you already installed the shocks back on the car, than i would get something sharp and slowly cut around the stop being careful not to strike the metal on the shock. ALthough if you did with a razor blade, i doubt it will hurt it any. I hope this works for you!

I have coilovers and I just remembered how i did my last install so yeah i'll chop'em and put them back on when i throw the springs on. Did you guys get any rubber rings that the Tiens go on or not? I know i got 8 for my coilovers and none in the box for my tiens.

haha. actually no, its perfectly fine
they don't affect normal ride, just when you hit big bumps... which I try and avoid anyway

and nope, no rubber rings with the Tiens here
