Hey i think my car is idling a bit low. It is at like right under 1000 rpm's. also, what can i do about this? anyone have any ideas as to why its happening.
What is normal idle RPM? - 6G Celicas Forums
NO CLUE MY MANUAL IS AT LIKE 700 RPMS
actually, I think that is quite normal. Mine idles a little under 1000 rpms also. So if there is a problem, we are both a lil screwed eh? >

> kewl thnx. THe only reason i was wondering was because like lets say im at a stop light or something. And I have my AC on, my car kinda shakes a bit like its idling too low, till i hit my gas then it is fine. ??? ANyone know why this is??

My car shakes too when i'm stopped at a light, if i take the car out of drive the car stops shaking. Mine shakes pretty good tho, like everyone in the car can feel it. My car is a a salvage title, and was in a front end clip before i got her. I am pretty sure one of my motor mounts is bad, or messed up, but since i'm replacing the engine in like a day thats not too much of an issue. (cuz i'll have that motor mount replaced too).

mine does that too. I have 200,000 km on it and the normal idle is around 700 rpm. The compressor on the car is pretty strong and draws a lot of power. You could try giving your car a tune up... clean injectors, check the plugs, wires, cap. Other than that, don't worry about it.
Yeah, I can somewhat explain it.. Air conditioning in particular runs off of pullies & belts n **** like that. When you have it on, it takes less power from the engine and diverts it to these systems. Most people take off their power steering/air conditioning to get the MAX amount of power. Or you can purchase an underdrive pulley.
A quote from ASP pulleys :
"Improve the performance of your vehicle in three ways. Underdrive pulleys are an inexpensive solution to more horsepower. By reducing the size of your crankshaft pulley, your power robbing accessories turn slower, resulting in less drag on your engine. That means more horsepower to your rear wheels. You also get better fuel economy and longer lasting accessories."
Hope this helps.

under 1000 rpms is pretty normal
at about 500rpm is when the shaking happens when the ac is on and the car is at a light. in that situation, since the car is not moving, the electric fans are one, as well as the climate control blower, making the alternator work a little harder, putting resistance on the engine and then the AC compressor puts a whole lot of resistance.
that is what happens with an auto that is left in drive at stop, the tranny side of the TC is not allowed to turn which is even more resistance on the engine.
to stop the shaking i always press the ac button, the ac turns off, the shakes stop, and less gas is burned and the engine doesnt get hot.

Erm, mine is about 800rpm's idle; when I turn on AC idle automatically goes to 1000rpm's.
-> think this is the automatic choke kicking in or something...

mine also idles right about 900, even though i have a 3sgte, and when i had a 5sfe i think it was 900 also.
Normal idle speed (with the car in netural and all accessories turned off) for the 5SFE engine is 750 RPM, + or - 50 RPM.
Does your idle go up with the AC on? The idle should go up when you have the AC on to compensate for the extra load on the engine. If the idle doesn't go up, then there's something wrong.

I was fooling around in my car the other day looking for the ECU. While I was in the floorboard I looked up and there was a plug dangling that wasn't plugged in near the A/C. I'm guessing this had something to do with the idle when the A/C was on, because my idle increases to 1,000 when I turn it on, and before it just dropped to about 500 and idled rough.
Anyway, my car idles around 800 rpm with all accessories off.

my car does all this too, and in that case it has nothing to do with the tranny being auto or manual. My car does not idle correctly at all because when I start it up it doesn't increase the idle to keep the cold engine on. Also the same with when the ac is on it shakes. The car is automatically supost to increase the idle when accesories are turned on and therefore something is wrong if it dosn't. Me and a friend at work have been trying to figure it out to no avail so far.
Nevermind. I was gonna say something, but you answered it.

Idle is 700RPMs
[TeamNJCT
If you shorten the throttle cable, doesn't that make it idle higher? Some people have said they've done that to launch from higher RPM's or something. Don't think I'm gonna try that, though.
Yea my idle is for the most part under 1000 RPM's
when engine cold above 1k is norm when engine hot 700 is the norm my idle is fine i got 155k on the girl >
