applying brake lube - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #41466 22 posts Started by Snodalo
do i have to take the brakes off and apply brake lube? or can i just put it on without even taking off the wheels?
what is brake lube?
its applied between the pads and caliper and on the caliper bolts and slides. it helps to reduce unwanted noises and keep things moving smoothly. wherever theres metal to metal contact you put it in the drum brakes.

its usually a thick silicone grease, but white lithium can work. generally though, brake quiet works better between the caliper and pad. its usually a bright color and dries rubbery.

sooooo..... i take it off?
yea. take out the pads, spray the brake quiet or "brake lube" to the BACK of the pad (part that sits against the caliper) let it dry or whatever the stuff says to do (usually it is reinstalled sticky if it is the brake quiet stuff) then put it back in the caliper.

Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them allNo but I don't buy itLike anything you do, as anyone you areCause I'm...Ten Speed, of God's Blood & Burial
i like using the red-orange stuff from crc. apply on back of pad, wait til it dries, stick back in.
i wonder how many people buy the spray can and spray it through the wheels right onto the rotor? laugh.gif

its ****in embarrassing pulling up at a light with a loud ass system thumpin and then u can STILL hear the brakes.
are you sure theres not a stone trapped in the pad? try rebedding the pads.

theyre brand new... or they were... i had em on, they sounded great, but the next day they started squeaking like ****. its not just one of the brakes either... before my friend put them on for me, he was like "if anything happens to em ill buy u new ones myself..." and after that happened he was like... well thats normal with metallic pads.
LOL, thats not normal. did you bed them in properly? did you remove the old pad film from the rotor? if the rotors were new, did you clean the oil off of them?

yeah i rubbed the rotors down with alcohol... he was the one that put them in, so im not positive...
did you bed the pads properly and check the pads for any peices of metal or debris?

well i didnt but my friend is the one that did that... he said the noise is from the rotors because theyre from napa or some **** like that...
make 10-12 stops from 20-5, 30-10, 40-10, 50-10 with 3 minute cool downs bewteen each stop. see if that clears up the noise.

ive been drivin around with this noise for about a month now and its still there, i doubt its going to go away
you'd be surprised what properly bedding the pads can do to make noises go away.

well after he put them in, he did drive around the block at different speeds and brake but im not sure what exactly those speeds were.
also, sometimes as the rotor surface wears smoother noises will go away.

you took the pads out and applied the anti-squeel all over the backs and then put them back in right?
