HELP!!! NEED CV BOOT - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #41381 9 posts Started by freakyre33c
i was putting my rims on my car last night and i notice a great amount of greaze around the bottom of the strut bolts and i then i notice the 3 -4 inch tear in my CVBOOT i need one fast if any one has one or two tell me?? how much are they oem anyways?
its way easier to just get a new axle/cv assembly and install that than it is to...

remove the axle
remove the old boot
remove the cv joint
clean the cv join
inspect it for damage, scratches, gouges, ect
regrease the joint
reinstall the joint on the axle
install the new boot
install it into the car

if you buy a new axle/cv assembly then all you need to do is...
remove the axle
install the new axle

im pretty sure they sell them at autozone pretty cheap assuming the boot is all we need
my mechanic told me to make sure to get the oem cv's instead of aftermarket ones since they last a lot longer. In his experience, people who've used the cheaper stuff ($20 a boot) come back within the year to get them changed again.
I did mine temporary with a split type boot..suprisingly after 2 months its still holding strong!! (again I see it as a temporary solution)...

i used a split boot on mine.... its been 3 years and it is fine, no leaks and no tears
i just bought two new axels at napa, theyre going to be in tomorrow but they were 59 each which isnt bad. I think there is a court charge so i might have to give them my old ones. my cv is ****ed up too but im just replacing the axels. at autozone they said it was i think 139 each for each axel.
the reason why you want to replace the whole joint is becuase water and dirt can get in there and just eat up the joint over time weakening it. if it breaks when you're driving it can be very very very bad. not only are you stuck where you are, if you're turning when it happens you can spinning off the road.
