I need to know how to correctly align the marks on the camshaft and crank sprockets to set the timing on this 7a. Could someone give a response before I set fire to this car. I've already searched btw. Thanks.
how do you set TIMING on the 7afe? - 6G Celicas Forums
i'll assume and clarify, you're talking about timing the crankshaft to the camshaft correct?
i think another celica site has the BGB's online which may cover the 7afe, but the procedure should be the same for the 4afe.

There are marks on the back of the timing cover that you line up with a dot on the cam gear and a mark on the crank pulley.

The top drawing is what the cam gear looks like. I have tried lining up the hole with the notch on the head and lining up the notch inbetween the two gears and the same mark. Have I used the the right mark yet? There is also that bump.
I lined the crank up the same way both times as pictured below.

NICE DRAWING!!! I LOVE IT..lol
iirc the cam notch is for aligning the one gear to the other gear.

awesome picture lol
Yeah I know best I could do real quick. Found the right section of the BGB for the 4afe. I was using the wrong crank gear mark.
I have to reply just for that awesome drawing!
