7A intake new bling doesn't work - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #40423 24 posts Started by 97lestyousay
I have a polished intake for a 7a but it is 94-95. Everything appears to
be the same as far as bolt pattern and hose connections go. The basic shape
is different. I was just wondering if they will interchange.

that does look sweet. +3 i like it.

looks good Randy, but nobody answered your question lol

I'd say if the bolt holes line up it would be fine, can't hurt to try I guess smile.gif

should be ok !

but if it's not pass it dowm to me biggrin.gif will be in good hands

ps I'm serius about that, if it doens't fit let me know and I'll get it from you, I have a back pack full of pennies smile.gif
It looks good but don't work. Everything lines up all hoses connect.
The underside is different the pcv inlet is in a different spot, and the housing
itself is quite a bit different. Upon startup it revs to, I assume the limiter
I shut it off before it hit 5000 but it was rapidly increasing, not quite WOT
but close. I had my son check the throttle body and it never opened he said.
so its pulling air from somewhere. I never threw a code at all. I tried it about
6 times removing the cover 3 times to check stuff with no luck. I put the 97
back on and it ran perfect no problems at all. The 94 manifold chamber is
evidently quite a bit different than a 97. Anyone have any Ideas?

Heres the problem. The port below isn't covered by anything other than the metal gasket,
on the 94 manifold that area is totally open and the gasket isn't held down by anything.
Learn from my stupidity and don't try this.

what is that port for? where does it go to?

you can't just cover it up with something?

yeah when I took my intake off mine would rev too, but it was because I left one of the bolts off from the egr valve.

Oh yeah I was looking at the inside of your intake manifold and it looks different than mine.

It's sad that it doesn't fit on yours after the effort you made for it. if you don't have a solution, I would take it from your hands.

It has dry carbon in it so the air in it has exposed to combustion,
the 97 intake blocks it so blocking it at the port would probably fix
it. I am just going to forget about it and maybe polish the 97 and
engrave it or just forget the whole altogether since I plan to swap
next year. kindasad.gif

The manifold in your profile pic looks the same as my 97, is that the original motor?
I figured it would be the same the polished 94 I have.

JDM guy made me do it.
it was my original motor kindasad.gif I replaced that one with a 95 engine same year but stupid me didn't swap the red cover so now my engine bay doesn't look as clean kindasad.gif

you are right Randy, he has a 96+ intake mani cover on that *

* Stevenson, you said the motor was replaced with another 95, correct ? I would guess it was a 7a from a Corolla, not a Celica wink.gif hence the different intake mani cover (same year)

I'll take a look at my current manifold tomorrow morning and compare it to the pic here. but my guess is that the engine is from a corolla and that would explain why I don't have a sample port for the EGR temp sensor. kindasad.gif

I'll get rid of the whole EGR set-up as soon as I get my hands on a multimeter smile.gif

Randy, whenever you decide to swap, let me know. I would take that intake manifold cover and the valve cover off your hands, and if you are going to try the swap yourself, I might be able to get over there and help out a bit. smile.gif

Thanks

I won't be swapping for at least a year. I am keeping
all the parts it never hurts to have extra a series motors
laying around. You never know when you might need something. biggrin.gif
I think I am going to just make a riser plate to cover
that area, like a really thick gasket made of stainless.
The only real problem with this is the studs at the bottom and
making them longer isn't as easy as bolts. kindasad.gif

I'm sure you'll work it out.

I still need to change the insde shape a little but I think it will work.

could you just swap on a manifold to match the cover? the earlier manifolds without EGR look simpler and look like they flow a little better
