Ominous check engine light - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #40044 17 posts Started by Vissi
For a while off and on i have had the egr 7-1 check light, and it seems to be killing my gas milage. I was just wondering if there is any way to check this out at the house. Iv checked vacume hoses, and iv replaces the vaccume modulator (from the junk yard) and i was jsut wondering what else to do. kindasad.gif
Thanks -dave

check the egr valve itself, pull it off and see if its clogged. if it is try to clean it or replace it.

i dont know how much they cost, but use a pick, carb cleaner or some other nasty strong solvent, and if you can get one...a small stainless brush that can get inside to clean it out. a tiny steel round brush would be good to use, but i dunno where you could get one. i have a couple and i dunno where i got them.

i would check the vsv too!! i have replaced more of those than anything else.
vsv? whats that

Anyway there is this black thing on the right of the valve cover (think is my pcv), and it is leakin alot of air through the sides, coud this be hurting my egr system in any way? I havent got around to checking the egr valve just yet though so im not sure if its bad.

heheheheheh get rid of that evil EGR altogether heheheheh

vsv = vacuum sensing valve, this gay little valve that sends a signal to the egr and other things i think....sits right by the cooling-water outlet.

close its a vacuum switching valve, it opens giving the egr vacuum when the computer decides to turn on egr assuming certain things are happening like proper engine temp, speed, throttle position and so on.it should be under the intake manifold and its a pain to get to. make sure the hoses going to it are ok, and if you want sometime next week i can try to email the diagnosis procedure on it.
Yea, id love those diagnostic sheets, also would it hurt anything (gas milage, reliability, worse idle than it is,emmisions) if i just removed and caped it.

Eck, i went and got a new pcv valve and gromet, only problem is that old one was kinda hard, and it broke while taking off, and some of the rubber fell into the valve cover. I wont be able to get to this for a bit, is it gona hurt anything? My idle is alot steader at about 900, i guess thats were it should be cause before it was anywhere from 500-1000.

pull your valve cover off and take it out.....it could **** some **** up..depending on how big it was....

vavle cover gasket 15$
some silicone 5$
whats your email address? i'll try to email that stuff to you in the next couple of day's.
when i removed my pcv some rubber broke off too and fell inside, i havent had any probs yet.

if it clogs an oil galley that outlook make change very very quickly, but not as quickly as the bearing will spin.
