Engine Temperature problem - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #39590 8 posts Started by xxdejavuxx
Hey guys.
My car takes quite a while to warm up, and even when it does... it only reaches a quarter... (i guess half of where normal operating temperature is. Its winter here in australia, not freezing, but quite cold.

Can anyone give me some advice on what to check for?
check your thermostate..that might be the problem...but yeah check that if its not that then what i would do is change your fluids..
True. ^

Those are exact symptoms of a thermostat failing-and or being held open by something.

Don't just take it out, it is there for a reason. Plus during the winter the heater will really suck.
So the engine is running at normal temps and the thermostat is just off? nothing serious right?>
NO, it needs to be changed.
How do i change the thermostat??
Is there a how-to anywhere?
A Haynes-Chilton manula can be had for a few dollars and will tell you all you need to know.

I picked mine up at Autozone here, but any parts store should have them or be able to get them.
Water pump might be broken?
