turbo or ITB?? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #38974 12 posts Started by b1gr3d
what do you al think i should do? ITB's or turbo the 5sfe? it's getting hard to find a ct-26 in decent shape for a decent price, BUT i would be willing to sacrifice boost for kick ass lookin/WORKING setups like ITB's

ITB pics would be cool too

ITB's would be cool, but you don't really get much performance from them. They give you better engine response, but thats about the only advantage i can think of.
Im with maskedman on that....itbs' look nice, but they only work nice on high compression engines.....dont want to knock your 5sfe but its doubtful that its along those lines......although a 5sfte sounds alot better...

you have a GT, which means you have a 5sfe. 5sfe is not known as a high horse power engine, it is known to have good usable torque.

So, the engine is designed to pull,,, basically. Thus you have put forth 2 options: 1. Get ITB's (individual throttle bodies). This mod is Great... for the right enging. ITB's are ment for high reving high compression race-type engines. This is not a good idea for a 5sfe which is a low rev long stroke torque engine.

Thus I will tell you: you should go turbo if you do anything. The turbo will bring out the engines inherant positive attributes while decreasing it's low hp faults. Also, the f series head design is great for turbo applications.
isnt the G series head better for turbo applications since the G is meant to be a "performance" head. The F series head was meant to me more fuel effiecient.

oh here's a picture of an ITB. IPB Image biggrin.gif

well, if he wants to do a head swap and turbo, more power to him. however that is a bit overkill isn't it maskedman?

And you can look in my profile at a ITB set up

ITB's would be usless on an engine like the 5s, thats made for low-end grunt and economy.
you'd be much better served with the turbo.

Yeah ITB with a head swap would end up being quite costly, and a lot of work. So 5sfte is prolly the better choice of the two, and it just so happens, im starting that project now biggrin.gif
TURBO IT IS! lol

well, what most people fall into is saying "I want to do ITB because it's different!" Well, thats all well and good, but all the other people might be doing the same thing for a reason. wink.gif
