Alittle extra pocket change - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #3841 19 posts Started by VAcelica
well just got paid and my car is finally paid off. Now i have about $400 to blow. I need two new tires but other than that, i really dont know what to buy. The tires are $75 a piece. I'm kinda leaning towards the coilovers. Its either that or the TRD quck shifter and some other small goodies. I need opinions cause this extra wad of money is just teasing me.
how about savin up for somethin bigger >rolleyes.gif>

My mom used to say something about money, buring hole in pocket. Something like that. I'd save up till I had enough money to do some fun stuff with. Do something different with it. Pay an artist to air-brush something on the side. Get a custom cut tinting job. Do something other than the usual. See how "cool" of something you can get for $400.

suppose you had $10,000 and could get 100% return in a year 10% compounded monthly and ever year after wards.

year 1: 10k
year 2: 25k
year 3:53k
year 4:97k
year 5:210k
year 6:522k
year 7:1.4 Million.

Coustoe I have no idea what that has to do with anything...but if Vacelica, if your interested in a TRD quickshifter, I just got mine today and put it in, so nice... It was raining tonight so i couldn't really get heavy with it and test heel toe much but its so choice...if you have the means, which you do, I highly recommend picking one up. The shifts are obviously much quick and overall it just feels more solid. The shifts pop right in and the gates are much closer. That goes without saying but I'm pretty enthused about it right now. Got mine for like $170 shipped and if you have some basic sockets, screw driver and patience its not to hard to install. Plus Coomer has a write up on it cause the Japanese instructions are useless. Hope this helps, PM of IM me if you want to know more.

If it were my $400 I would get the TRD quick shifter and TRD springs because unless you save up ALOT your not going to be able to get anything to increase your performance that much so these two things will help with the twisty bits. One last thing, I picked up my Greddy exhaust for $399 shipped so thats within your reach tooooooo...

Yea saving money but you can't get 100% returns like that year after year, might as well just say, suppose you won the lottery and you had $20 million dollars.

By the way, who the hell would wana get their care airbrushed before taking car of performance, if anything get robot stickers like Dominic and his crew...they look so hot

well i already have a cat-back exhaust, so where did you get your TRD quick shifter. $170 looks like the lowest price i've seen thus far.
I am saving up for the quickshifter, but I can't find anywhere in Aus to get it for a half decent price.

There is a trd shop in NZ but they have to get it in from Japan. would it be quicker/cheaper to get it from the US?

Milds3vn where did you get it for $170USD from? I might look into shipping from the US.
VAcelica - No one has covered this, but do you like sound? Have you touched the audio in your car yet? I want to changeover the speakers in my car, and add an amp, but leave the stock cd player to make the car look normal. You should take some time to figure out what you want!!

Argon - I'm after one as well, and the only web search I've come up with is a toyota dealer in brisbane: http://www.oldmactoyota.com.au/index.html but I haven't actually contacted them yet. Might get around to it one day. By the way none of the toyota dealers in adelaide will go to the trouble of getting TRD parts, I've asked em >biggrin.gif>

ps. can you pm with the details of the dragon emblems you told me about ages ago? Pics if possible!

What can you do for performance for $400? I bought a celica cause it looks sexy personally. If I wanted a fast car I would bought like a camero or something. Celica's are made for show, not speed.

psalm 69
Just because it doesn't have speed doesn't mean it can't have speed in the future.
I'd go with the shifter.
Thanks for the links Milds3vn, Kamix.

$164.40USD = $256AUD

that is quite a bit cheaper than I thought. Kamix, I might ring the dealer in QLD and ask for a price on the kit, it may be cheaper to get it from the US. lol. we could do the first AU group buy!!

Is there any difference in the RHD & LHD as far as quickshifters go? Would there be issues installing a US quickshifter kit in a RHD celica?
Nope argon, since its a TRD shifter they were actually designed for the RHD japanese cars.

I'm not sure about the shipping from that site, but I have already checked out the TRD toyota website http://www.trdtoyota.com/Parts/00602-30301-004.htm and they have all the shipping options there.

Anyway UPS Worldwide express from US to adelaide is $58 US

So we are looking at around $340 AUD to get 1 quickshifter shipped in. (paying $165US for the shifter). It would be nice if we could source them in australia somewhere >frown.gif>
Yea Argon by the way, the quickshifter is angled towards the driver so since your car is right hand drive it would be angled away from you so this would work man, now that i think of it, that is a minor problem because the shift cables wouldnt match up either, if you look at coomer's write up i think you can see how the one cable connects to the shifter on the left side so Im sure the whole thing would need to be opposite to match your RHD.

i think that coustoe is right

if you get a CD at a bank those interest rates are really high...

i personally think that you should just put it in a bank acct. talk to your bank and ask them what kind of acct. has the highest interest rates...put it in there and let it sit for a while
well i went to my friend's shop and i ended up buying some kumhos tires for $70 a piece and some coilovers for like $200 (preferred customer prices >wink.gif> . All of the guys at the shop and i sat around for about an hour and had a nice little debate about coilovers. We figured that pretty much all other coilovers, besides ground control(bc of the eibach springs), are pretty much the same. All of the alternative coilovers come in a linear design and the rides arent going to differ much, so they just ordered an off brand for me and they said if the ride was crappy and they couldnt fix it, then they would give me my money back. I know some people are going to say you get what you pay for, but my friends at this shop can work wonders. So i guess the TRD quick shifter is going to have to wait until the next paycheck comes in.
