Mobile 1 makes a 0w-40 full syn, It flows like a 0 weight, but protects like a 40, what do you guys think, bad or good idea? (also, i'm running mobile 1 5w-30 full syn.)

Just run 10w 30 or 10w 40.

i was thinking of trying out that european synthetic formula later on in the summer after my motor is broken in

why not just run whats recommended by toyota?

i agree, some people are so picky about their fluids, i was merely bringing up the topic of that green european synthetic to see if anyone else had read about it and was curious to start a conversation about it.

i put the cheapest coolant, antifreeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid i can find in my car, the only thing i wont go cheap on is oil and transmission oil.. and i use whatever oil filter is the cheapest.

i'm really picky, sorry. Can't ask a question anymore on this site and get a straight answer. question and answer, just not two a kind anymore.

Don't worry if people are picky about fluids. After you break your motor in, or before, just try it out, see how it is. You said you were curious to start a conversation about it, more power to you. Oh wait, this site really doesn't go for the "odd ones" Good luck with whatever you try.

Any toyota will pass 180 000 miles or more on dyno juice, being picky is really up to yourself.

Good synthetics last so long that the cost of using them kinda equals the cost of normal oil (fewer changes). Just be sure to change the filter once in a while.

This is what i use in my engine & box....

I use Amsoil 0W30 year round. No complaints. 10W40 is a little heavy for these motors , especially in the winter. (now maybe if I lived in Arizona or New Mexico in the desert,,,)

I think 5w30 year-round is the best bet. Synthetic oil just takes longer to break down, but at higher mileage we should be changing the oil every 3-4k miles anyway. When you say "flows like a 0 weight" I'm not sure what your saying. 0 is the viscosity of the oil at startup (cold). The oil becomes a 40 weight when its normal operating temp.

i use 0w40......in my turbo jetta

but stay away from it in toyotas
just run a 5w30 full synthetic from redline if you have a wallet for it
or just mobile1 5w30

I'll run a 5w-30 three months out of the year, but in summer i like to run something a little closer to 10w-30 or 10w-40

that is actually what is recomended for our cars
