5s Swap is finished - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #37563 12 posts Started by rzanology
So my swap is finally done. Had a 5s dropped in my st. the engine had 71k miles on it. I paid 1100 upfront for the labor...plus about another 800 for overhead. Had to get a new alternator...new radiator....new fan...2 new shifter cables....two new stabilizers at the back (nothing to do with the swap...but they needed changing so why not smile.gif ) and got my fogs wired up. I'm not done has yet though...i want to swap the dash from the gt into my st with the original miles.

The only thing i am really unhappy with is the clutch...its going bad....slipping a lot. But i can understand....at 71k miles....it was the original clutch it its most defiantly time to change it. I am not looking for a cheap stage 2 or 3 clutch to drop in.

I must say....even with the clutch not giving me any where close to all the power....the car is still reeeally fast. I am very pleased with it. Its a whole different world from the 7a. I can't wait to get my clutch in there to enjoy the car as it was ment.

so....i guess you can say phase 1 of my 5sfte is complete.
Phase 2....clutch smile.gif

now you can change that ST under your name to a GT

Cuz Thats How Us Country Boyz RollGrowing up racing motocross, i learned one thing..."Always wear clean underwear, you never know when the Paramedics are gonna have to cut your pants off of you"
congrats! i always like the idea of a 5sfte

this makes me wonder how upgrading from the 5sfe to the 3sgte compares to upgrading from the 7afe to the 5sfe.... i'd guess stepping from the 5s to the 3s would be a more dramatic difference, from looking at the power numbers??

although the jump from the 7a to the 5s feels huge, its really not...its a 30hp diffrence.
which does feel like alot.

going from 5sfe, to 5sfTe, or 3sgte, is REALLY night and day.
the car becomes a whole diffrent beast.
your talking 70+hp diffrence.
i still like to drive dustins(batman722) 5sfe now and then, and let me tell ya, once youve driven a good 5sfte, or 3sgte, the 5sfe feels REALLY slow...you STOMP on the pedal, and just keep waiting for somthing to happen. lol wink.gif

changing the clutch with the engine outside the car is simple compared to changing it with the engine in the car, that I have to say was a big mistake on your part.

other than that, yea the ST to GT diff is fun, congrats smile.gif

you dont have to tell me that. every now and then i drive my cousin 5th gen...he has a 5sgte. the reason im going that route. And let me tell you!!!!! driving that and going back to a 7a??? LMAO!!! was the worse feeling in the world!!!

the reason i didnt do the clutch when the engine was out was because of money....spend almost 2 grand for teh swap....and just about a nother grand getting the engine ny. But its next on my list....i'd like to atlease know that i'm getting all the power from my 5s. ALso...its a huge piece of mind driving your car knowing that not ONE thing is wrong or needs to be fixed. i am really striving for that feeling for the summer.
You mean 20hp dif? 94-95 st is 117hp 96+ 110 94-99 gt is 135hp
yeah the 5s feels fast because it's torque-y. but feels very slow in the high rpm range.

94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive

Not with intake, headers, exhaust and ignition upgrades wink.gif
Feels strong throughout the 1K-7k RPM range. But I spent way too much money changing my perfectly OK setup to get it this smooth and powerful.
Just keep modding - it's a life long process.
