best way to cut plastic - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #37476 8 posts Started by bloodrain
well I need to cut some plastic, I want to test out something and write my name in cursive in the plastic. What would be the easiest way to give it a nice clean look. Oh, and the pastic is about as hard as the door stops on our car.

i was gonna say dremel tool....but the door stops are more rubbery then plastic.

if its hard/ridged, a dremel tool would work best.

if its rubbery...idk

You could try a knife attachment on a soldering iron?

How thick is the plastic mate?

Might be worth looking for a company that would laser cut it for you, then it would be a perfect finish.

the plastic is about 1/10th an inch think, the only reason I dont wanna use a dremel is because it will melt and cut the plastic and give an unsmooth finish. I was hopin there was a special knife or somethin used for cutting plastic.

Maybe if you use some sort of scalpal (?SP?) or craft knife.

1994 JDM ST205 WRC with 17" OZ Chrono's wearing 215/45/17 Eagle F1's. HKS Induction Kit, Blitz DV, Decat and full SS System, Blitz SBC-iD and Power Meter running at 1.12Bar = 17mpg and a lot of fun
You could use a dremmel to remove most of the material and then use your soldering iron knife to slightly melt the cut rough edge into a smooth edge if sanding is too difficult.

Not sure how you could do it, but a hot piece of wire might cut a nice edge? Maybe pass a current through a piece of fuse wire and see if it does anything? Thats only a maybe, don't go electrocuting yourself dude.

Doubt that would work mate, it sounds about 2 - 3mm thick so it would be very difficult to cut with a knife, unless he can use a blowtorch or something to heat the blade?
