No A/C code 51? - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #37415 10 posts Started by Rjb23
Hey guys I don't have my A/C hooked up and I don't get a cel, but if I have the diagnosis pins jumped when the car is running and I give it any gas I get a code 51. Which is IDL No "IDL" or A/C signal during testing Check TPS, A/C switch, Accelerator cable. I don't have my A/C hooked up or the A/C throttle up switch hooked up, will this throw that code?
from my experience that code is thrown most often for throttle cables, TPS would throw it too but youd likely know if something was wrong with your TPS.

unhook your throttle cable from the throttle body and see if the code goes awya, im willing to bet like myself and lagos that your throttle cable is too tight or not adjusted properly.

what method of extending the throttle cable are you using? because it is a known issue that the stock throttle cable mounting position is too short and angled a little to the left.

Nope the throttle cable being to tight is definatly not the problem. It is actually a little loose and there is a little slack in it. The only time I get the code is when I rev, and its doesn't even show up unless I rev the engine with the diagnostic pins jumped.
my car does that exact same thing, i have a theory but im not 100% on it..

my theory is that when you press the gas its pulling on the throttle cable and tightening the cable and the ecu thinks that is the cable being too tight

wed need someone who has a completely functional vehicle to test this theory out though, art? jeff?
I think it has to do with my ac not being hooked up and my idle up sensor for the ac not being present.
rj, art and i had this arguement many times and he always came back with "plenty of people without a/c do not throw code 51"

plus if that code was ANYTHING but the throttle cable it would show up when you turn the car on, not only when you press the gas.
i think i should point out that art tested my theory today and i am correct, when you give your car gas in diagnostic mode you are going to get a code 51 because the car thinks your throttle cable is too tight (duh because when you press the gas the throttle cable tightens)

woot my first correct theory!
Nice work. DIA mode is for idle only. I dont have AC at all AC components all removed, no codes here.

I will return one day.
Cool, that takes care of that code.
