OEM Sideskirts - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #36403 21 posts Started by JFrost9
Well I have a 94, and bought some OEM sideskirts. I took the plugs outa the holes that came stock. However, when i try and line up the sideskirt, it doesnt line up at all. Only like 1 or 2 plugs line up with the plugs that came with the sideskirts...am i doing something wrong?

ill try to get in touch with my body shop mechanic and see what he did. im pretty sure you have to drill new holes.
this was one of the questions I've asked before. i believe you might need to buy those mudguards without the flap to kinda space it. they are also known as fender protectors. I just ordered mine because like you said only 2 screws fit on the front half but then again like ive said before it leaves an opening. what Im thinking of doing is putting a screw on the backside and maybe under too. I might need to get weather stripping also unless somebody else was able to flush it to their car with letting rain going down in between. I might need you guys help also for some insight.

well im not worried about that...theres a bunch of little holes in there to let it out. So what are the mudflaps for? I mean i know what they do, but what do they do in relation to the sideskirt? Do they go in b/t the body and the sideskirt?? I think ima just drill new holes where the the skirt's pegs are. Is that what your suppose to use to hook up the skirt? Those little white pegs throughout the body?

i will be putting some oem sides to my 95 as well... looking forward to someone giving some more detailed tips on this issue.

Yea, i was hoping to get these things on before the weekend was over... I think ima just drill holes into the bottom of the car and attach them that way.

hope you can post some pics when you put the skirts on.
Do we seriously have to drill holes in the body to fit those little white pegs? I was wondering what those pegs were for too
Ya i have oem's too but would it b possible to cut the pegs off the skirts and use double sided tape to put them up, and then still have to screws on the front and back wheel wells? Cause i really dont want to drill holes into my body.

^^that's what i plan on doing. i've ordered the bolts that bolt on the bottom side of the skirts and the front and rear wheel wells. i'll be removing the white clips on the skirts and instead use double-sided tape to attach the upper part to the body.

Can anybody provide pictures for future reference? I am purchasing OEM sides pretty soon and I have no clue what you guys are talking about!

Ill take some when i get home, the pegs are removable, so no need to cut them. I took them off on one side, just to try and figure it all out. Im just not sure if double sided tape is what i want to use on the side skirts, not a sturdy suplement. Unfortunately it rained this weekend, so the skirts still arent on. The inside of the skirts are at a weird bowl angle, and it seems like tape will be difficult since the skirts dont sit flush with the body, they go in grooves if that makes any sense.

I'm also very interested in how this goes - keep us updated! thanks!
Ok, just thought id clearify on everything and what not, Its already dark, and will probably be raining again this weekend, but hopefully i can install these:

Here is where the existing holes are...

They are very simple holes (sorry for all the dirt).

Heres the under side of the skirt, there are a bunch of those lil white piecses, but only two of them line up with the holes under the car.

heres a close up, the problem i have is that i dont know if double sided tape will work too well because of the complexity of these...anyways you get the idea.

If you use double-sided tape for the sides, will it either not hold good enough or will it just not be tight enough to the side of the body?

An update please?
i've ordered my bolts from a local toyota dealer and the under-side bolts would take 3 weeks to get... and now it's been about a month. anyway, i'm gonna be calling them up to see whether it's in or not, and when i proceed with the installation of these skirts and succeed, i'll surely be posting in this thread.

ok.. i've just called the dealer, and all the screws and grommets came in.. i'll be picking them up tomorrow.. and installation will hopefully be by this Friday..

Okay, I have installed mine. Double-sided tape has been said to work but I think it is not as effective. I did mine by just using tapping screws. They leave small holes into the car. They drill and screw in at the same time. and they are very strong. They pretty much held the skirt tight to the body than the tape. Let me know how you guys do it.

Self-tapping screws? So you didn't use toyota ones? I'm thinking of getting some skifts myself, but i don't want to drill holes in the car.
