My new Rims (updated 5/15/06, finished) - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #36034 54 posts Started by devilsden97
well got everything installed on saturday. Had a wake on sunday, and a funeral monday, so no pics yet. I think i have to bring the car back to the people who balance my tires and scream, cuz between 60 and 65mph the steering wheel jiggles back and forth really fast. (i figure that the tires werent balanced correctly) Im fairly annoyed by this, but still in good spirits, hopefully some pictures soon.

PIcs?

yeah sorry, im gonna try and get some nice pics like with a hot back round and stuff, been really busy. Lots went on last week. uh...also question, when i go over 60mph, my wheel shakes/vibrates. Its either the balane of the rims, or the alignment. But which would u say it is? Suggestions? Take it back to the same place and tell them that they did it wrong, and have they redo it, or bring it some where else and have them rebalance the rims, and see if it was that, or the alignment.

oh and for the pics, im thinking of going to a bank near me, it has a pretty open parking lot, and there is an IBM complex in back and when the suns going down, it looks way cool. Ill see if i can get into the complex and take pics, idk cant wait!

Wheels have to be off balance..take it back and tell them it shakes now and to rebalance them. Did you get hubcentric rings? If you dont have them that could be the problem also.

well ill do that, but they came with a ring in them, but there was a sticker that says "this whell is supplied with an installed centering ring., the centering ring may not be retained in this wheel if you change wheels. If this wheel is remoed you must also rmove the centerin rin from the ehicle bub befor instaling your spare tire or any different wheel." Then thers more with a phone number and blah blah ...the people at the place took them out/off, and gave me them and the C-clips that hooked them in....could that be the problem?

Good thing im a pack rat, cuz most people probally woulda tossed thos out.

Well you need those hubcentric rings... Thats probably the problem.

It wont tear your tires up... but you will get vibration alotta times without them because the wheel doesnt center on the hub properly.

ok here is my question....can i just take the rims off, and put that ring in, and then put them back on, and they will be all good, and no shakes? or should i take it back and be like install it right!

You can do it yourself if you want by removing them and putting the rings on and torqueing the lugs down even

yeah...star pattern to torque them down.....it pretty easy...im just wondering if the car will still be off balance. They can just be put in, without the clip that held them in right? or should i put in the clip tooo?

after this post, and talking to manny (presure2) i decided that it would be worth a shot to install the rings myself...............2 hours later...done! took it for a drive, hit some back roads...60 then 70 no shake...so i pushed it further 80....90 no shake....i hit 100 no shake..then got off the gas let go of the wheel and coasted....no shake...all better.

Thanks guys for all the help. Pics are in GD under Hudson River Shoot.

Edit: Right after posting this, i went to work, and it shook bad! Angry.

ok so finally everything is done, the car drives like a dream, i had to take it to another place and get the rims balance. Now i have to go yell at sears for my $50 back that they charged me to balance them.

But i love it, sooo nice. Ill get some more pics of just my car as soon as i can.

Edit:

Mille Miglia HT3 Rims x 4 = $447 on atm card
Falken Zeix ze 512 tires x 4 (with stems and balancing) = $611 on atm card
Sportline Springs = $300 on atm card
Various labor charges = $1000+ (est) half on atm card, half cash
Taking it for a test drive and having to get the tires rebalanced somewhere else = $39 cash
Finally having this tire and rim ordeal over, a month after it started = Priceless

Somethings money can't buy, for everything else, charge it and worry about the payments till later

It does, doesnt it.

I forgot that in that labor was 2 pieces that connects the swaybars to the struts, they cost me $105 each

225/45/17's and i love them....my old stockers i could break the tires loose from the roadway...these 8" wide ones are hard to do....actually impossible to. (thats a lie, i did it last night, but the road was wet, and i stomped the gas from a dead stop to see if i could brake them loose, and i did, but only for a second, then they grabbed hard.)

(again i only have a stock 5sfe)
