Si finally got my 3sgte clip in today..So excited to put it in now. I was jsut wondering where the ECU is located in the cars. Is it usually behind the center console or underneath the seat. Cuz if it is underneath the seat then i didnt get one with it. ANd if i didnt get one with it do i just use my 5sfe one?

EDIT: how can you tell whether it is a 1st or 2nd gen? and I will have a few pics up of it tonight..

its under the center console. way way below the radio. get to it from either the passenger or driver side under the dash.

Now the wiring harness i need is only what goes to the ECU or do i pull just about every wire to convert it?

Start pulling from the ECU then pull it through the firewall from the engine bay, whatever is connected to these wires will be part of the wiring harness. You need to do this for both your old engine and the new one for the conversion.

Doesnt seem to be too tricky.

w2a = water to air, kinda like an intercooler in a bucket of cold water.

a2a= air to air, typical intercooler setup.

why would they seem to downgrade to the 2nd gen.

It was probably cheaper and much simpler for Toyota to produce and bolt up a A2A at the time as opposed to having to use a W2A and do the extra plumbing, wiring, heat exchanger, etc.

Nothing wrong with a good TMIC thats A2A, as long as its designed well enough not to soak up alot of heat and be efficient with boost.....something that I've read Toyota missed the mark with on the 2nd gen motor.
