I would like to maximize wheel base but I don't want the time to stick out. I would like for the wheels to sit nicely underneath the car. Could anyone help me on this deparment?
Rim offset - 6G Celicas Forums
offset 40, wheel width 8 inch, tires, 215-40-17 or maybe 225 40 -17...mium......
sad my pics don't show it well....

Does anyone know the offset of the original wheels that came with the Celica?
i thought u were suppossed to go with 205/40/17's if u were gettin 17's i dunno maybe im wrong.

205/40r17 is actually smaller than our stock wheel/tire circumference. the best match is probably a 215/40r17 or a 205/45r17.

Would it slow you down if the overall circumference of the wheel and tire is smaller than stock wheel?
Well, if you go with smaller dia., you are supposed to gain torque transfered to the road, so more torque = more power = faster......about the top speed, I don't know. Your engine'll be revving higher for the same speed, but since you have more torque, will it go faster or will you go out your power range on your engine.....???
It will be like if you change your diff ratio. Drag cars have a high gear ratio, and smaller dia wheels will give the same effect. I think this is good if you don't have lots of power under the hood.

ok i am sorry if i sound dumb, but what exactly is the offset?? >

the offset is the distance between the center of the wheel and the surface where it actually bolts on the car's hub, if you look your car from the front....so the higher the offset, the wheels is gonna be more "outside" your car (wider ).....I'm confused myself when I read what i wrote.....hahaha
I (think) the offset for the Celica is 37, feel free to tell me im wrong, if i am, but i think thats right.

37 sounds about right. but anything between 35 and 43 should work. anything above and you'd best get some spacers.
