City lights are small light bulbs inside of your headlights that light up your headlight assembly somewhat. Below is a photo of what my city lights used to look like when I had them in my car.

Below is what you'll need in order to make city lights that look like mine.

Type 194 light bulbs (2)
Sockets with wires for 194 light bulbs (2)
Wire (At least 16 gauge)
Inline Fuse
Switch (Optional)

First, you need to drill a hole in the top of each of your high beam headlight assemblies, which is big enough for the end of the sockets to slide into. Now you can put the bulbs in the sockets and secure the sockets to the high beam assembly somehow. I used duct tape, but it was pretty ugly. >wink.gif> Once the sockets are in, you just need to connect the ground wires of the sockets to a good chassis ground. Then, with the +12 volts power wire coming from the sockets, you have a few options. You can splice these wires into the parking light power near your turn signals, splice the wires into the blinker wire near your turn signals, hook the wires up to a switch, etc. Whatever you do though, be sure to use an inline fuse in the circuit, to be sure that you don't start an electrical fire in your car.

I hope this helps. If you need more info, just let me know. >smile.gif>

Are they illegal? Looks like I might get rolled for something like that.
can anyone of yall people who had city lights open up your hood and show us some pix of how you guys fitted these lights in your highbeams. i wanna see the drilling and where you guys exactly did it.
im thinking of using Varad 12v LED's (the ones that come in packs of four) It says that if i hook it up to a light i doesnt need a fuse. Does this mean i can hook one up to my side markers and now use a fuse?

Also i was thinking about hooking them up to my head light wires but what would this do to my head lights? Would this dim them or have n e affect on them? do the head lights even run on 12v?

If i hook the LEDs up to my side markers would the side markers dim as a result? Is it better to hook the leds up to the head lights or side markers when doing this mod?

wow - old topic - but glad it came back

NEW PROJECT - w00t!
lol yes indeed this is an old topic. I actually dont want it for colored lighting but more for just lighting up the hi beam assembly while normal driving. Thus the leds ill be using will be white.

My questions are. Can i splice them directly into my low beam wires with out affecting the low beam in n e way (ex. dimming of hi beams)? Or is it better to hook them up to the side markers and if i do that will i see dimming of the side markers?

I now know i dont need a fuse if i hook it up to something that already has a fuse. However in my other hobby i have learned that its always good to fuse something.

What kind of fuse should i get? and i assume i need to put it on the positive side and not the neg/ground side of the LED?

thank again and thanks for the new pix Phat_99CeliGT

Those LEDs will barely draw any power, so yes, you could splice off of your parking light wires or low beam wires, but it's still a good idea to use a SPDT automotive relay.

Also, I'd attach the LEDs or bulbs to the assembly using a hole in the bottom of it. I used to have city lights in the top of the assembly, and the hood prop would hit them. Also, it looked ugly. >wink.gif>

Wow I love this. I'd really like a pic of where they should be mounted to the high beam light, though (hint, hint). >wink.gif>
