OEM Fog Light Switch - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #35030 11 posts Started by UTSlickVic
Well I'm installing my OEM Fog Light "push" Switch I got on ebay- Switch located beside diver side vent. Its of of a ST202. I figured its alot cleaner look than after market switches. Anyways, I ran into some confusion on how to wire it. There are four wires. But the wiring (not stock) leading to my fogs now only consist of 2 wires- well at least from a quick glance under the dash. However, the wiring was from after market fogs (later I just hooked up OEM fogs using the same wirring) came with a light up switch (which I did not use). So I think the wiring has capability of lighting up a switch (I think).

Need some direction...

Does anyone know what each wire does? Can I neglect a couple of wires?

here's a pic of the OEM wiring from the button.

in my experience... green is usually the power... white and black is ground..

there are 4 wires

wire a: ground
wire b: parking light ( so the switch lights up at night)
wire c: postive for relay
wire d: neg. for relay

only way to tell is to use a volt meter and measure the values of the wires.

Cool. THx Hanyo.

I think Jaws is right:
black/white are ground, green is power.

I think I remember orange being elumination.... so is the red/black wire for neg relay? Not sure what neg relay means. Is it the same as ground.... (I feel dumb)

heres a pic of the button on RHD

im thinkin this is how it works. the led in the switch should have its own power and ground. on a stereo wiring harness ORANGE=ILLUMINATION so i geuss that would make GREEN=GROUND so u can wire those into your parking lights so the light comes on when you turn your headlights/park lights on. RED=NEGATIVE and BLACK/WHITE=POSITIVE on the fog relay. boom your set.

so you're using aftermarket wiring? are the fogs hooked up to just the switch/power/ground or did you use the stock relay?

Yeah its not a stock harness/wiring... I assume all the aftermarket wiring has is power/ground/and maybe elumination... just because the switch it came with had a light up switch.... but thats me assuming. I will be for sure tommorrow when I take a good look.
hey I posted that pic wink.gif

UT, do you know how to wire in fogs (aftermarket) ?

my st205 swapandour Beams swap
i used to have after market fogs and the wires were positive(white)/negative(red)/ground(black). the LED needs its own ground but shares power with the fogs. then again i had them ghetto rigged. but that doesnt help ya here. refer back to my 1st post. rolleyes.gif

Yeah I did it when I had aftermarket ones... but is was much easier because everything(switch/harness) was suposed to work together. Actually my bro helps me alot with wiring... he is pretty good at that.
Hey its me again. Finally getting around to installing the switch... but I thought I had everything figures out but the wire I thought was whate and black is actually white and green! What is this? does anyone know? Is it still ground?
thx,
Vic

Orange/Red: Button Illumination
Green: Positive
Red/Back: Negative relay?
White/Green: ? (ground ?)

Do I have this (somewhat) right?

bump... for HELP

I must be color blind... OK, this is what wires I have coming out of the OEM switch:
GreenRed/Orange
White/Green
Red/Green

The wire colors I have on my aftermarket fog wire harness are:
Red
White
Black

I know what these (aftermarket harness) wires do, but what the hell do the OEM colors signify? Help... ?
My first attempt thus far has been connecting the following

OEM ------ Afternmarket Harness
green ---> Black
red/orange -----> did not connect (assumed it was illumination)
white/green -----> White
red/green ------> Red
This was just a test to see if it would work...this did not work.

I kinda followed what Hanyo listed. Can anyone give me some recommendations? I may have to just go junkyard hunting to look for an OEM harness.
