Well, I have been problem free since I bought my car back in early 03. I guess I'm about due because of all the racing I do. I don't race a ton, but I do run my car hard a lot. I've noticed my car is now eating radiator fuild, and what's there is brown. And, I'm leaking more oil than I was, even after replacing the gasket at the camshaft, and the valve cover gasket. I really don't want to put another 5sfe in there. I was rather a 4age, 3sge, or 3sgte. Those are my choices, and in that order. What ever I find, and is most cost affective, I might put in. I might end up putting another 5sfe, or just replacing the head gasket. But I really don't want to do that. I have no time to mess with it, so I'm worried that I might stay with this POS 5sfe.

I reckon the 3sge would suit you though.

Bulldog you racing fiend! For you i would say a high reving NA engine is in store. I fear what your lead foot and boost would do. Not a good friendship. Besides, you would be reletivly unique with an high output NA motor. Also, NA would allow you to better circut your car rather then drag it since NA is more predictable and easier to handle then a boosted motor., and make it funner to drive. Let me know what you decide though.

Hey man, if N/A is what you like then go for it. You can get your hands on a 4AGE 20v complete with trans, ECU, harness, and p/s pump and a/c on EBay for about 1 grand. Thats about as much as you'll pay for a good 5SFE.

You can also sell off your GT mounts and tranny to an owner who has an ST and wants to swap 3SGTE and make a couple bucks, or trade mounts and then sell the trans seperate. Either way, its not a bad choice and can be cheaper. I love the 4AGE and have seriously thought about getting one, but I really dont know whether I would prefer it over a 3SGTE.

I would say to go for it though, you can't really go wrong with any of those motors, but a 4AGE is cost effective and very fun, im sure.

I don't really think you should get the 4AGE, that's like swapping a 3SGE into an ST except backwards. Since you have a GT with all the equipment you need to for an S-series engine, I would get a 3SGE... even getting an older 1st gen would probably be fun If you could get a newer 2nd or 3rd gen from Japan, all the better

Well, I talked to my uncle and dad today. It looks like the V6 is looking like the best for me right now. I know I can get one from a junk yard and get parts from the local Advanced instead of having to go for the dealing for everything like I would with a 3sge. Tweak, I am going to need your help on the wiring. I'm trying to get everything lined up right now. You know, I never really thought I would swap the V6 in my car. But I just hate this 5sfe, and the V6 is the most fesable at this point.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that I'm home at my parents right now, so I won't be on line much. I'll be back next week and I'll be getting really serious about this project then. I'm going to have to do a ton of research.

Things are looking bad. The car is eating oil and radiator fuild, and now it's knocking. It's not knocking bad yet though. Here is were I need some advice from those who know me. What should I do? Should I really swap in the V6? I have an uncle who is very knowledgable, but not a lot of import swaps to his name. He's just a very smart backyard machanic kind of guy. Most know how much I know from my posts. I'm not an idiot, but I'm certainly no expert. Money is also an issue at this point as well. I'm a full time student with no income at all. My parents are going to have to pay for everything I do. I don't feel right making them pay a good bit more for the V6 than to just rebuild the 5sfe, or buy a new 5sfe. Since I'm a 94, I know it would be a trick getting the wiring from a 96up 5sfe. Just wondering what you all think I should do at this point. Thanks.

I would say go with whatever is the cheapest option.
Since you have no money.
But I cant really see you enjoying the 5sfe from your previous posts.
So I guess the V6 or the 3sge man.

a 4A into a GT would be a lot of money, into an ST would be easier, but it would be the same as putting an 3S into the ST

4A~ST= easy
3S~ST= harder

3S~GT= easy
4A~GT= Has anyone ever done that?

I've thought about that a good bit. I searched it and got a good bit of the info needed to do it. Like Tweak said though, it's hard to go into a GT. For the same price, or close, I could go 3sge. The problem with the 3sge is the avalibility of parts. If stuff from the US mr2's 3sgte will bolt to it, it wouldn't be a problem. But I know there's some things that don't. They are two different motors.

If you got your hands on a 2nd or 3rd generation 3SGE, there are a few guys here that have swapped that motor here in the US. Also, theres alot of UK and European members that could likely get you a copy of a parts catalog from Toyota or foward you the correct part number for something if needed.

Consider also that most external parts from Toyota will be stamped with a part number somewhere and could be interchangable with similar motors, so the more complete the motor or clip the better off you'll be for having parts.
