ok i love my car, its great only 2 things that i dont like about the car in general its slow and the position of the cupholders, i mean with a 5 speed and a drink in there it makes shifting into a tricky game hand goes to the inside for 1st and 2nd then around it for the rest or over it but thats uncomfortable, did the guys at toyota run out of good ideas working on the "godly" gt4 and just slapped the cup holders in i guess it would be ok on a auto but come on
i love the celica but.. - 6G Celicas Forums
they designed the interior to wrap around the driver. not like some cars where you are just sitting at a desk. For this reason, the extra room for cup holders where left to the bad areas. that is my understanding.
yea i often find its hard shifting when there are drinks in the cupholder lol thatz why i use my girlfriend as a cupholder lol
I gotz 2 things my celi and a dream, the prob is commin up with the thrid one...

yeah, try having a jacks 32 ounce cup in there. No can shift, just high rev in 1
Try owning a 5th gen celica where the cupholders are right under the radio, in font of the gear shift. I turned a Taco Bell cup upside down in that car once trying to go into 3rd gear. Not pretty.
I f you have the Toyota leather arm rest upgrade (LOL) you can shift quite easily.
Anybody else have this $150 almost worthless upgrade?

i have it but it came with the car when i bought it. if you ask me its better for shifting cause you barely need to move your wrist and the shifter feels lower

i wanna see a pic of this
eh, doesn't bother me all that much. cuz yeah, girlfriends are great cup holders lol. i'd much rather change my slow speed instead of the location of cup holders.
ss-iii splitters and 404 skirts areon. which means i need to update my sig.
im ok with going slow for now, because i am broke and dont have a choice otherwise, but i like my brothers mx6 the cup holder is right by the vent that is to the left of the steering wheel, out of the way and easy to get to
Well us Automatic people have it alittle easier we don't really have to worry about shifting and drinks
, thought i wish i had a manual
. But i still love my car either way
>
hah yeah...no cup holder problems here!
not that im sating AT is better im just saying...the cupholders dont get in our way lol

my car had the padded arem rest and i took it off...
I don't like where they are either... so i took them out... cut a hole in the back of the arm rest, and put them there... so now drinks sit nicely on top of the hump in the center of the back seat...

i had no problems with the cup holders in my 5th gen. although you can only fit 21 oz drinks or smaller. i usually don't cup the stick with my whole hand when i shift, i usually just palm it and push it from the bottom.
for the 6th gen however with a drink in the cup holder, i shift with my arm on the inside and reach around the drink to shift... or i'd just steer with my right and reach over and shift with my left. but with 2 drinks in place, my god i seriously can't imagine how somebody could ever drive that way for the sake of having 2 drinks.

girlfriends as cup holders
Yea the position of the cup holder gets to me

as much as you guys.

I love our cupholders...it's nice how they hide away when you don't need them and aren't permanently in a visible spot like in a lot of cars.
And I rarely use mine as well.

I gotz 2 things my celi and a dream, the prob is commin up with the thrid one...
I dont find the location to be a huge deal.....until i go out someplace to eat with my g/f and we bring cups back into my car. Usually she holds the drink for me just cuz she knows its a pain.
Although I try to be resourceful. If I eat out somewhere by myself i usually either try to get rid of the cup before I take off or i'll just shift with my wrist from the bottom of the shifter if theres a cup there. Lately i drink so much water that I dont have to worry about it...just close the cap tightly and throw it on an empty seat.
Done.

yeah i agree with you, the cupholder is a pain but then again I thought maybe they put it there as its againest the law to drink and drive.
Well it is over here.
