basically I was going to purchase a '93 ST185 RC, but now I am going to possibly get another engine to build up, and my question is what are the differences between different model 3sgte's?

Which engine would be the best choice for me, I can get a ST185 RC for around $2200, or a plain ST185 or ST215(engine,ECU,harness) for $1500

I know that the st185 RC engine has the water to air intercooler, and a higher boost setting, along with(not sure about) a DE-activated anti-lag system compared to the plain ST185

I know alot of people want the A/W intercooler although I already have a huge front mount.
And, as far as the higher boost I already have a boost controller.
then there is the DE-activated anti-lag system which I have heard 2 things about
1.very hard to make work and wire in for use
2.In higher HP (350+) engines it is best to remove this system

So which engine will make the most power for me without having to invest for parts or options that I don't plan on using.

I would prefer a engine that will be stronger and have more potential.

I plan on purchasing the engine within the next few weeks so I greatly appreciate any help or advice,

the st185rc dosnt have anti lag. only the st205rc has it (along with other upgrades) ,very hard to find.

you basically have 3 options.

st185= if you plan on using a fmic. probably the cheapest clip to buy.

st185rc= if you want the benefit of the water to air IC. normally costs a little more for a clip.

st205=best and fastest motor you can buy, even better water to air IC, better turbo, better injectors, better ecu tuning, etc.etc. etc... hardest to find, and costs the most.

Is that the kind of power you actually looking for? 350+hp in an alltrac or GT4 is one thing but in a FWD your looking at some serious handling issues. All the of those have more than enough potential, you wanna save a few buck go st185, if you've goto it to spend go for the st205 lagos summed up why it's better.

I don't mean to be asking alot of dumb and/or useless questions but what about the 4th gen 3SGTE?,

And also is you say if I am going with the FMIC i might as well go with the ST185 (non RC) what about the SW20 mr2 3SGTEs?

Sorry I am asking so many questions the reason is I am going to buy the clip this month and build it over the next year and I plan on doing something similar to the level of build as GT4_WRC has done although I know he has the ST205 WRC engine and I know I will most likely not find one, at least not at a reasonable price ($1500-2400 before shipping), So what would be second best w/o paying for options such as the w/a intercooler that I don't plan on using(unless it is better than my front mount )

honestly, if i were you, i would start doing a TON of reading.. these are such baisc questions, that youll probably end up buying something and regret it later on, because you didnt take the time to learn about this motor. so, use the search feature, google, mr2oc.com ...etc... and read all you can before buying anything

if your end goal is under 350whp then the RC setup would work beutifly.
theyre hard to come by, but if you can find a good clip like jeff did, its a great setup.
if you REALLY want a FMIC, or are thinking more than 350whp, then the RC is not what you want, cause at that point, your not gonna wanna be using any of the RC equipment anymore..(IE: ECU, AFM, and intercooler)

and as far as the FMIC I already have one I have a 7AFTE in the car right now and plan on using the same FMIC, and basically as many parts as I have on the 7AFTE on the 3S setup as well as a new ITS GT32 turbo I have as well, as far as the ECU I currently have a SAFC-II which I plan on using with the 3S ecu until I can go E-manage Ultimate or later Apexi

get a normal st185 clip.
get an mr2 tranny.
DONT get an mr2 clip.

yeah it does get a little annoying having to say the same swap stuff on a daily basis. i have no day job right now, so i guess this has become it.

LMAO. I was thinking the same thing, but it's what the board is for. OMG, LOL. Dan some more research should be done, but Lagos makes some great points and I'd take that advice.

also stay away from the SAFC on the 3s.

I heard that the 2nd gen 3s-gte are better suited for high HP range then the 3rd gen 3s-gte. Because the 2nd gen is a stronger block by itself.
