CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Feb. 8) - A former U.S. soldier injured in Iraq says he was forced to pay $700 for a blood-soaked body armor vest that was destroyed after medics removed it to treat shrapnel wounds to his arm.

That's bullsh!t. If I was injured in Iraq (which I wasn't, thank God), I'd be fighting that.

Thats stupid. He goes to Iraq to fight for his country, and all he gets in return is shrapnel wounds and a $700 debt? WTF???

Ignorant statements like this irritate me. You can't blame everything on one guy. Sure, Bush is wrong in some of the things he's done, but I'm not placing all the blame on him. People do that, just like the Great Depression was blamed on that president. I don't like the intire system. It's all at fault. Everyone is blaming Bush for everything, and that will be an easy fix. He won't be President for much longer. Then all the polititions can say, "We fixed it, he's gone." When in reality, nothing is fixed. It's all the same. Same game, new game piece. I'm not up on politics like I use to be. I'm busy for it right now. So there may be holes in my opinion.

Well this is a perfect example of how the military and their gear is run. It was like that when I was in. If you lost something you had to pay for a new one. There is a saying "There is only one theif in the Marine Corps, everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back" or "gear adrift is a gift." Meaning you gotta watch your stuff cause it costs $$ to buy a new helmet or flak jacket or gas mask. Plus people want to keep stuff as a souveneir. A buddy of mine lost one of his sheets to his bed and had to buy a new one.


This incident Im sure happened many times before. This time it finally made the paper.

UPDATE: I just read this morning hes now getting a refund ;-) well im curious since a radio station raised the money how they are going to refund those people! hmm

I remember those days we called it "acquiring gear" instead of theft. If you left it in the field that would be one thing, but this is just wrong.

This is different though. I understand having to pay for it if you lose it or leave it behind or something. But if it is damaged because you are injured then that's just BS. Like if I get shot, I don't want to have to pay for my new armor lol
