The Celica is a sports car - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #33526 48 posts Started by darksecret
hey guys, you seem to forget that there is also the GT4. And i dont think that anybody is really trying to say that the GT4 is not a sports car. Hint: WRC champion and ralying is a sport.
Therefore, a sports car should be considered any kind of car that is built to be able to participate in racing and in general offer the driver something more than moving him from one place to the other.
Baseline:

Celica = Economical Sports Car, or an Entry Level Sports Car... Wannabe Sports Car... Kinda Sports but Not Too Sports Car...

Corvette, Ferrari, Porsche... bla bla = Exotic Sports Car, Fast Sports Car, OMG I Need Gas Again Sports Car....

Corvette's may be fast, but there's nothing exotic about them. You can go into any podunk town in America and find at least a dozen of them.

Not many out there - check
60 in less than 6 seconds and over 150mph - check
sub 20 mpg - check

Define 'Exotic' and 'Fast'?

JDM ST205Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying.

I see plenty of Z06's, unless you're specifying the NEW 2006 model that's only been on sale for a short time and will comprise anywhere between 20-30% of all new corvette production. It's only a matter of time before you see one of them in every town as well. Now here's some trivia: how many Enzo's are being made?

just because a high number of that car is driven around your town doesnt mean its still not a sports car. come to souther california for one day and you will see what i mean... i see at least a dozen s500's in the 10 miles i drive to school... i see dozens of z06's... i see ferrari's and lamborginis on a daily basis (a silver ferrari 550 almost hit me today), my neighbor's daily driver is a very nice rx7... i dont think anyone here would argue that just because i see a lot of those cars every day that that makes them any less of a sports car.

I'm not trying to say it's not a sports car. I'm just saying it's hardly exotic when every Tom, Dick, and Harry owns one.
i believe that a almost 80 thousand dollar car with 500 hp can be considered exotic
The only reason some people wont consider a Z06 exptic is because it's American, go to Germany and see how many Z06's you find, the Z06 is either an exotic or an exotic killer. The Viper is classified as an exotic and in the area I live in (pop around 10,000) I can find about 5, there's less Celica's in this area than Vipers. Point is you can't classify an exotic by production numbers and demographics, only around 800,000 RX-7s were built since 1978 but they aren't exotic, even though for a worldwide market spanning over a 20 year period that is very low. If you do want to get technical special editions aren't exactly exotics since they're based on a more widely produced base, but don't tell that to SL65 owners. It's hard to classify an exotic, it used to be a very expensive racecar for the road, but now certain exotics such as Porsche, Maserati, and even Lotus are starting to become more open so that they can sell more cars, since most of the companies had to sell to larger companies like VW, Ford, etc. I think you'll be seeing Aston Martin SUV's, Ferrari sedans, etc. come rolling of the design table and into the showroom floor (unless gas stays the same, then it'll be Ferrari compacts).
Sports car...its about how a car drives, not its specs, price, rarety or esthetics.

a 4 door M3's or STI's aren't sports car? come on...

integra TYPE-R, not a sports car? Yes it is.

a 140 HP miata ? yes!

my opinion...

I also think sports car should be considered in the decade it's been created, we all know technology changes.

^^so is a rx8 a sports car it has 4 doors
I don't see what the big fuss is...? Can't a car crossover into more than one catagory? Why can't a car be both? For example, Sport / Luxury or Sport / Sedan, Sport / Wagon or even Sport / Utility?

Yes, they all exist! smile.gif
thats a great point you got there, i sometimes call the celica a sports car, then soetimes an economy car
