Ok i have this buddy who was dating this girl for about a year and she had a 94 celica st 5 spd. my buddy painted dash inserts, replaced the engine, put a cd player in her car, and painted her wheels. about 2 weeks ago she broke up with him and told him that she basically used him for the work he did to her car. he told me that he wants to get back at her and sell her car. the title is under her and her mother's name, his name is on the insurance. and he has a key to the car. is it possible for him to sell her car and if so how? someone please spare some insight.
um, no. This is the stupidest thing I've ever read. Thanks for wasting part of my life. Are you and your buddy 16 or something?

If you tried to sell the car, you would obviously need the title. The insurance is only a matter of who pays to protect the vehicle from certain circumstances, depending on your policy. It does not imply ownership on the vehicle. In order for your friend to try and sell the car, the car must be signed over to him and be registered in his name.

In order for the girl's mother to GIVE him the car, he would have to take her to court. Within the first 5 minutes of court, the judge will throw the case out and say something like.

"This seems like a gift to me, only a dumbass would do all that work and think they're entitled to the vehicle." Tell your buddy to grow up and to learn to not trust people. He must be a nice guy, but he needs this lesson in life... Some girls will use you.

I forgot to mention the title is "in the car" sorry but i forgot that does that make a difference?
I believe that's still stealing mike. Even if this girl is stupid enough to keep the title in the car.

o well that sucks cuz he offered the car to me for cheap, hmm i think i have to find out a way to get this car cuz i drive a camry =( and must have a celi
Let me get this straight one more time, and please if you're joking, tell me.

- Your friend was dating this girl, and while they were dating, he did a bunch of work on her car(for which he was not promised compensation)

- They Break up

- He throws a hissy fit and deems the car his because he worked on it for free.

- He turns around and offers it to you for cheap just to get back at her.

- You're big enough of an asshole to try to illegally buy this girl's car from underneath her.

Is that what you're telling us?

Hey, tell your buddy that love stinks. Sometimes you get your heart broken. Maybe she's a bitch, but your buddy was gulible enough for the dumb bitch to waste her time.

I guess if the insurance is under his name, he can cancel it.

Jay, don't you think you are being a little rough on the guy?

To the OP, its her car and thats that. Time to look for your own to buy.

Am I being an asshole?

Look at what mike and his friend are trying to do?

Hey, I gave my neighbor my lawnmower out of the goodness of my heart.

I have the key to his house, and I've been nice enough to pay his heating bill.

that makes it my house right?

I have law enforcement experience.

That's theft.

It's a felony.

If you buy the car, both you and your buddy will go to prison. Not jail.

You will be convicted in district court for your decision.

Have a nice day!

Jail is like, in the police station, kinda temporary. Prison is like, thats your new home.

Pretty much. Jail is for misdemeanor crimes (first and second offense DUI's, theft under $1000, etc.) and is punishable up to one year in jail (county).

Prison is for felonious actions (murder, rape, theft over $1000, etc.) and is punishable for over a year in a state penitentiory (sp?). The more crimes that you have committed, the more time you spend in prison.
Haha. Thanks for the professional advice guys thumbsup.gif

A Jaws4God Creation...
Even if he did get any, but judging by the current situation I would doubt it, that just strengthens the case that he's a dumbass.
