Ok here is the situation. my father gave me his gt. ive done complete tune up, both axels, battery, rear sturts. now here is were im at now. when you start the car and put first gear and take off there is no problem, 2nd gear no problem nowwww....putting 3rd gear is the problem. the clutch is pressed in, as your trying to put in 3rd there is a craakkkk. the same noise that u hear when the cluch in not pressed in all the way and u tryin to shift gears. its not the clutch b/c there is still preassure and it not slipping, not the tranny, my guess the cables. i looked at them today and they seemed ok. once 3rd gear is in it works just fine, i drove around with the plastic cover off the the noice seem to come from the assembly were the shifter sits on. but i dont see how that could cause that noise. user posted image

I think it might be bad syncro in tranny...not really sure...but one of my friends had same problem..
Its your synchro. 3rd gear is a common expensive problem with manual GT tannys in celicas.

Teh Celica sleeps for Winter '06. Suspension overhaul begins........
Just get a new synro, don't buy an intire transmition.

is this synchro inside of the tranny? should even mess with it? and clue on cost?

Yeah, it's in the transmition. You should mess with it. I have no idea of what it costs. I'm interested in doing this for my 3rd gear too.

well there are ways around this. mine made a sweet clunking noise like in fast and the furious when he shifted for my 3rd gear. Its my synchro, but only has issues in higher RPM such as 4k and up. Since i dont race my car or drive like a jackass in 2nd gear I really havent had any issues over the past year with.

Also you said you did a tune up but did you change the transmission fluid. IF you did in the past when, how many miles are on the car. IF you havent done this then get on it. Drain your fluid and use BG Synchro Shift. It will help with any synchro problems you have. Depending on how bad yours is right now it may not do much for your 3rd gear but it will preserve your others.

hows it taste motha f*cka

Mine is oppisit. If I drive slow, it shifter slow. But if I get on the throttle and run high rpms, it will shift just fine. I like the way might worked out better.

Don't even bother playing with the insides of the tranny. If you pop it open and look inside, you will be shocked with terror and fear. Theres so many ______..... Just open it and see for yourself.
not to sound stupid, but, have you check the tranny oil?
before you go do anything crazy like swapping trannys or somthing, id try changing out the gear oil for some pensoil syncromesh..cant hurt to try.

manny tranny fluid has been done, i actually drove to car to school today and i noticed, like it was mentioned earlier when i shift is at like at 4-5 rpm u can really feel the kick when it kicks back.
I called toyota today the syncro is only 29.99 but labor for puttin it in is $450. The clutch is also startin to slip in the higher gears like 4-5th, so clutch is needed to. Then engine is burning a little oil , so im guessin the rings have to be replaced too. with all this i might just wait around and swap the whole thing. japan direct down in Raleigh have clips for 2500 and a st215 engine for 1600(ive never heard of a st215), the only thing is the tranny. those are awd trannys, the 5s tranny is bad so i cant use it, mr2 tranny u gotta convert and it sound like its a pain to do, so im clueless kindasad.gif
when you say "kick" do you mean movement as in feeling the motor/tranny jerk? if so, id say check your motor mounts.
st-215 = caldina (4th gen 3s turbo and manifold are 1 peice, no W2A intercooler..ect)

the "kick" is just when the gear dosent really going, u kinda have to give it a push to go in.
try doubble clutching it to stop it
