Need Help! Carbon Hood wont clear top mount - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #32699 23 posts Started by eggman40
I have an at200 chasis, i just put in the 3sgte in and i test fitted the hood to see if it would clear and it wont. Any suggestions? and no, no front mount, i cant afford it yet. the hood is a VIS carbon fiber c-one replica.(with the top vent) thanks.
How much different is the underside of the VIS hood ? I can fit a W/A intercooler under the hood.. Could you take some pics ?
Are you sure its mounted correctly ? (engine and hood)

I will return one day.

the engine is mounted correctly, at first the hook used to lift the engine was bent too hight and it would keept the hood from closing, but i was able to bend it back. Now when i put the top mount on it still wont close. Im pretty sure its on correctly because all of its screws match up with the correct holes. Ill try to get pics in tomorrow.

1994 ST205 Celica GT-FOUR Group A WRC - running in new engine1993 Rover 220 GTi tarmac rally car (under construction) 3SGE power here we come....GT-Four spec list
Nothing personal against this guy.... but i absolutely hate when this happens
A guy virtually comes out of nowhere and is like "I swapped in a 3s-gte" - yet this community has previously heard nothing about it. You would think that the average person would have at least a couple of questions concerning the swap. Also, it always comes up that they dont have a digital camera - and can't get one somehow , therefore they never have pics. I'm not trying to flame on this guy or anything - but if you can't get pics up pretty soon - someone is gonna call BS on your thread smile.gif
thats awesome that he didnt have ask questions - cuz if there has ever been a concern or a question - it has been answered on here for celicatech tongue.gif

the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.
I'm just saying it's a shame that he never posted any of his info on the swap.... or any specs in his profile.
It's just the lack of info that gets to me.... because i'm jealous of everyone w/ 3s-gte's and if they don't share in there experience - how am i gonna live vicariously through them??? tongue.gif
I agree with you Celi GT. I try to share as much as I can about the 3sgte. being videos or photos. I was once in your position.

I will return one day.
Mine fits fine.
nm, I guess it does fit over in most cases.

um, yeah they do.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
The top mount will clear just fine, you just need to take the cover off of it. Mine wouldn't fit with the cover on but I took it off and it fits, but its tight.
if it won't close right then try instering urethane bushings (you can find them at home depot) between the hood hinge and the hood for a small amount of clearance gain

sorry for not posting a whole lot about the swap, i have thrown it out there here and there with a few questions but the reason why i dont elaborate on it is because this is my first swap ever and im kinda learning as i go. I dont want hand out any wrong info. Once im done and it all works well i plan on posting everything i did and volunteering myself to answer any quesitons anyone may have. But until then ill keep low and make sure i get every thing going well.
its a known fact that the tmic of a 3sgte wont fit under the hood of a standard at200-st204 chassie. even though you have an aftermarket hood, im sure that they didnt take the 3sgte into concideration when manufacturing the hood for the at200. so your choices are a) get a gt4 hood b) take a chainsaw to the hood or try to hammer it out c) (the best option) save for a fmic.

Hmmm thats really wierd because mine fits under the vis c-one replica. Its a tight fit but it fits, it touches the hood infact but it still closes. It is a good idea to fmic asap, cus the tmic sucks balls anyway.
I still have the stock hood on my car and I had to make modifications to make it work. I had to cut some of the support bars so it wouldn't rub. But what can you do with CF?

well different companies make the vis replicas so they probably aren't all the same as far as clearance goes under the hood.
Maybe or maybe he doesn't have his engine mounted yet so its not fitting right.
