This sucks - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #32698 32 posts Started by bloodrain
My problem is I just want to be like heres $5000, get it done. Come back 2 weeks later and pick up my celica. Obviously things dont work like that, I dont know jack sh*t when it comes to engines, I always used 2 let my friend work on my old 300zx but now he moved away. I love my car but its 2 damn slow :-( any suggestions on how to get the 3s swap done? Im tempted to ship my car to where 1 of these other guys have had there swap done and just let them do it for me.

I can do it for you for $5000 smile.gif

There is one guy in Miami I know who works on Toyota engines, he's pretty good, but I don't know how much experience he has with the Celica. And it won't be for $5000. wink.gif

I'm sure there's someone in Florida that can do a 2nd gen swap for $5000. I simpithise with the slow Celica factor. These things suck for power.

honestly, if you do that, then you are just asking for trouble. you have to remember that this is a custom type of thing, and you really want to learn everything you can about it, by doing a lot of the work youself. future post swap issues can come up and it will really benefit you to be able to fix them youself or at least know whats going on.

its not hard, you just have to be hard working. i didnt know anything at all when i started my swap, but leared quicky more then i ever thought i would. part of the cool thing about doing a swap, is the things youll learn from it that will forever benefit you as a car owner.

I just dont even know where to start, I dont even know any trustworthy mechanics. I've already been reading the engine section of the forums for well over a year now but I dont think anything i've learned from there would really help me in getting the swap done simply because I am not the one who will be doing it.

why did God punish americans by taking away he GT-FOUR?

Art said it best.

Reading the engine sectino of forums isnt going to get you THAT far. You really need to read the published websites by people who have done alot. I personally researched for over a year after I made the decision to do the swap. Countless hours of just sitting and doing searches and talking to people really pays off. And then I spent months finding the right engine.

you guys just need to get off your buts and do it yourself! no one on here that did their own swap was any type of mechanic to begin with . if we can do it, so can you!

Yeah, doing it yourself is really the best way to go. I didn't and I paid the price bigtime...my car was down for over half of an incredibly stressful year.

But since then I haven't taken my car to a shop for anything and I've learned a ton. And I'd definitely do my swap myself if I could do it over.

New Toyota project coming soon...
it would be nice to have the time, money, and means to do a swap.
www.xatracing.com does do an auto to manual swap - for an extra $600 thats including parts and labor -

i would love to do the swap myself too - but i rent and my lease does not allow me to do that kind of work although i have my own drive way big enough for 4 cars - unless i rent out a shop or borrow someones garage - but that would be too much hassle and inconvenient -

i may be planning on xatracing to do mine also - if i cannot find a location to do it myself when the time comes
that ****s ****in awsome, $7100 for a 3rd gen swap with stick shift, I think its worth it. During the summer they are definatly getting my bussiness. And I would love to learn how to do the swap, but I dont have the time, or the help (my friends are very limited) or the resources. But hey if you bastards want i'll pay for your airfare here and back if you want to help me with it.

as long as you have the tools and know how to turn a wrench u can do it man.

Visit My Automotive & Tech Blog.
I more or less have the tools I need, just not the time and man power or knowledge.

To live, is to sufferTo survive, thats to find meaning, in the suffering....
i'm sure we all can do it on our own as long as we have the tools including a good digital camera to take pictures of every signficant thing so we'll be able to put it back together n a bunch of ziploc bags
I think for me, paying these guys is a much better option.

2nd that - as i have no time or location to do it - if i have location - i'll definitely find the time - but that means rental car for me since this is my only car - at the end i think it'll all end up costing the same as if i paid some one to do it - so i agree bloodrain - $7100 for some one to do it within 2 wks - or $7100 for me to do it for over 2 wks -

I would do it if I had the time, space, and tools, all of which I have none of now. I did my turbo project this summer because I didn't need an engine lift, or a bunch of space, or any tools really more than a few wrenches. I'd like to do it, but I'm in school and have that work, etc. If I could just give my car to someone I wouldn't miss it (i rarely drive it now in school anyways; I walk everywhere) if i could just get it back with a 3sgte.

you hit the nail on the head!

all these excuses are lame! this isint like talking your car to the shop so that they can put new brake pads on. its not a "give them the keys, and take it home perfect" kind of thing. if a mechanic tells you that it will be done in a week, then that really means a month . if they say a month, then it really means a year.

i didnt have any tools, no garage, or no past car experience. i have to admit, that when i got the clip, and the 3sgte coolness factor wore off, i got a little overwhelmed about how i was going to pull this off. but then i kept just working on it, and got some much needed help from other 6gc members and got it done.

one of the best things about doing the swap, is how it will change you as a person. not only your car, but your skills and knowledge of how things work will be turbo charged.

do your own damn swap, or you will just regret it, like coomer and other people who had to deal with the stress that only a mechanic can bring into your life.

my offer still stands, if you guys want to fly your a$$'s down here and help, i'll pay for your plane ticket :-p Because I dont have an engine lift or jacks high enough to lift the car to get the engine out, nor do I have the space at my house to do it. So either way, paying them is best option for me. I know I would love to do it on my own or with friends, but its just out of the question.

i had the same questions and problem as you. no tools, no engine lift, no garage, no place to ship a clip to, no place to put it, never worked on a car before, etc....
