Sticky gas pedal - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #32578 7 posts Started by djultimate
Sometimes my gas pedal can be kinda hard to press. It usually only happens when I'm taking off from a complete stop. I try to press lightly for a smooth take-off but nothing happens so I have to press harder and then the gas pedal finally gives and my engine revs making me look like an idiot that doesnt know how to drive stick. The pedal itself seems to be fine so I'm thinking it might be the throttle cable. What do you guys think?

spray your throttle linkage with some type of lubricant.

or just check to make sure that your floor mat isint stuck under the pedal smile.gif

It's definitely not the floor mat

Pull the intake off an check the butterfly. I'd suggest that it's sticking a little.

Spray oil and and a rag to clean it up and see if that helps.

JDM ST205Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying.
Mr_E is probably right. I had the exact thing happen to mine. Took it to the dealership and they cleaned it out for me fairly cheap($20-$30 I think). But had I known exactly what it was, I probably could have done it myself.

I have the same problem and found that the TB linkage sticks to some sort of magnetic switch next to it. I haven't had time to play with it but I'll figure something out.
The wierd part is that it only does it in certain areas. When I'm in austin, it's hard to reproduce the problem but when I'm in mexico, it happens everytime in first gear. kindasad.gif
