I've heard that hooking up, say an xbox, to a big screen tv will damage it. Is this true or just a myth? We have a 53" rear projection, 2 tuner tv, and a Bose Lifestyle surround sound system that I've been DYING to play some forza on! I'll turn the system off when I'm done playing it, and I won't be playing for very long periods of time (2 hours at a time max).

rear projection lcd nope, older ones unfortunatly will burn into the screen. I got mine hooked up to our 70" Sony XBR its coo.

Never hook it up to the computer Via TV tuner, the graphics just plain suck! Too much blurred polygons.

i believe ALL of these rumors are overly dramatic
there's rumors of lcd burn in, plasma burn in...everything burn in
and CRT is the only one i've seen on a technical site about burn-in, but at the same time it takes For-Ev-Er
just play it smart and show the TV different colors

if you plug it into it and leave it on ALL THE TIME then yeah, you'll have problems. Playing a couple hours a day shouldn't do any harm

i have a 52in Flat Screen tv and have had no problems at all with game systems, but I have heard that if you keep turning the tv on and off with out it cooling down that it can damage it.

kills plasma more than anything, thats it though, burning happends when an image is left on screen for long time, hense why arcade games cycle every couple seconds

this is an OLD myth that started up with old ass computer monitors. ever use one of those old computers at work that only display green and black or orange and black , and you can see some of the old text burned into them? thats where all that crap started from and to this day we use screen savers in our computers....even tho they dont need it.

basically everything can and will burn in with lots and lots of use, the places where the burn-in occurs the most is the places where the score or clock is located because they never change for the extent of the game... the idea is over dramatized, but it can happen and does happen.

yea the older big screens had burn in but only if left on for hours on end and continuous image display. which is why you can see "INSERT COIN (0/4)" on most arcade games. it was the only thing left on the screen through all the intros.

i'm not sure about xbox but i know ps2 has a inatice screen saver .. if you go 10 minutes or more with out using the controller a the screen dims and the image on the scren starts moving back and forth ... but like art said its an old myth that started with apple computers with the amber text screens.... they only things that do get damaged are the projection tv . the ones you put on a table and project the image on a wall or screen... but that only happend if you live the same image on for over an hour... don't ask me how i found that out ... (damn lesbo porn)

plasmas are notorious for it as well as rear projection TVs... they say right in the manuals that whatever warranty on the TV does not cover burn-in and that video games should not be played on them... but honestly, they are just covering their asses.

old big screens have issues and plasmas can have an issue w/ screen burn in. New plasmas have newer technology to help out w/ burn in, phase shifting and white screen wash. LCD projections, CRTs, and DLPs dont have issues.
