I'm looking at buying 18"s rims, but Im worried about what sort of things I should be wary of. What is the driveability of 18"s like? Is safety an issue, ie. the lack of sidewall, expense and availability of decent tyres. Also, ride quality, will I really feel every bump in the road, etc? Am i better of going 17"s?

i had 18" rims on my car. the ride quality isnt that good b/c you have to use a low profile tire. i used 215x35x18 tires on my wheels and that definitely made me aware of potholes.

My 18"s are the same mass as my old stock 16"s, and ride quality is acceptable. Turn in and stability are excellent.

hmm.. it looks like I'll definitely have to rethink 18"s.. and I would be getting 215/35s, to keep my speedo accurate.

Bear in mind your stock speedo almost certainly overreads by 5-10%.

My 18's don't mess with the speedo. My tires are the same height as my stock 15' tires are. And my speedo is perfect. I tested it with a cops radar.
I run 225/40/18's in the summer and they look great (imo) but on the track/strip/winter months run 16" rally slags and tbh the car feels alot better, with a much more progressive loss in traction, instilling more confidence on the limit. Car looks lost with the 16's on though

à got the 18's with 225/40 tires and I wouldn't change them for 17's. Lower profile is better handling atleast in my honour opinion.

What offset is good for those 18x8s with stock suspension
Seriously, get 17's. You'll have more tire selection, cheaper prices, more rubber between the rim and road, better handling, etc. I have 18's and they look good, but I dread imperfections in the road.

i just bought 17x8 rims and i put 225/45/17 on them. Get either 215 or 225 wide. I wouldnt go into 18's if its your daily driver, to many issues with potholes and crap, but your choice. Good luck
