Expert Engine Question - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31998 7 posts Started by snapshotgt
well, as it states, i need your opinions. . .

I went to start up my celica today (after not being driven for 1 day), and a sec after i started it, it immediately died. (i tried to start it a few more times // turning off the cd player etc.) and did not turn over. Then, since i'm kinda on a hill, i was able to start it rolling down . . . then it died . . . then, standing still, i stared it, and as soon as i did, i reved it. . . LOTS of blue smoke came out . . . (for about 5 secs...) . . .

i have searched this, and blue smoke (according to pressure2) is linked with some problem w/the valve gaskets . . . and i'm thinking there is something more to this than that . . . ?

anyway, please give me your ideas, and please only post if you know something key in this problem . . .

Thank You,

~snap

p.s. I know i have an oil leak, waiting to fix it...(it's like a $500 repair...) <------ EDIT:-------> just that much because of the labor, parts like $50 . . . and it takes a hoist // and removing a lot of stuff . . . nothing i can really do . . .

What happened after that? Did the blue smoke go away?

Where is the leak from?

Hey doc!

i see (through reading threads) that you are quite an engine dude! lol!

. . . anyway, the smoke died away after about 5 secs (a ploom each time i reved) . . . but after i did that, the car ran fine . . .

. . . the oil leak i think is just a pan gasket . . . i can re-check about that (i have the write up about it)(but don't you have to remove a lot of stuff to get to it?)

anyway, this car has been taken care of very well, but does has 208,XXX miles . . .

thanks you posting! // i'll be looking for your reply!

thank you,

p.s. i know you charge like $500 to do a whole swap!...so $500 for a gasket!!...but this is a garage, and they like charging $80 per hour... frown.gif

does the starter crank nice and strong? my guess is you have a battery/altinator related problem

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
^ agreed. happened to me when my altinator wires burnt off so it woulkdnt charge the battery.
would run for a few then shut off. and through in valve seals for the blue smoke.
so looks like u have a couple problems going on.

hey, thanks guys . . .

yeah, it cranks strong, but i have to say, it was pretty weak when it was dieing (lol)

. . . i was thinking about it being a altinator . . . but i think that was kinda new too . . . i'll def check up on that . . .

(battery i know for sure is pretty darn new . . . ~ 2 months old)

Keep an eye on it, if you consistantly get blue smoke on startup then it may be your valve guide seals.

The oil pan gasket, if that's what you mean, is quite easy to replace. Well... not EASY, but not hard either. smile.gif

And it's $700 for a swap, just for the record wink.gif
