Intercooler Sizes - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31635 12 posts Started by JoKeRkId613
I'm putting together my turbo setup. Now I'm looking for an intercooler. I've seen several member's FMICs. I currently have a 94-95 front bumper and I was going to measure the entire opening and buy an IC that wide. I want an IC that will take up the whole opening up front. Like I want it to cover the opening. But I was just remembering I'm going to get the 96-99 bumper and I have the fogs so I'm pretty sure the opening is smaller.

So I'm wanting to know what the ideal dimensions for the 2 different style bumpers are. So that means anyone can post. If you've got a FMIC then let me know what dimensions it has. Thanks.

do you have a front shot of that? i cant see if it takes up the whole space from top to bottom. i guess i'll stop being lazy and measure the height of mine tomorow. lol. but if you know right off the top, let me know.
i dont have a shot. but i remeber it taking up the whole slot. but who knows

i mentioned here that i was going to keep my current CAI piping to do my FMIC piping. It's made out of 6061 Aluminum and someone here said it wasn't strong enough. what type of piping exactly would i need? thanks.

aluminum will work fine for ic piping. there is no reason to keep a cold air intake on a turbo car. the intercooler will cool the air anyway.

no art you need to read his words closer.....
he wants to use the CAI as part of the IC piping......(cheapo)
oh i got ya...

well, 6061 aluminum is known to work fine for ic piping, but your going to have to buy a lot more piping the what came with your cold air intake to do the job.

i used stainles steal 2.25in piping on mine. it costs a lot, but looks great and will not rust on me. if you want to go the cheap way, buy aluminized steal, and paint it to help prevent rusting.

just guessing at least twice the weight of alum. assuming the same thickness material.
