Can somone tell me what vaccum lines U have to connect to that?


A/R .60 M11.


A/R .48 M4.


I need to know what goes to that aluminum line on the mid-top piece(assuming the oil line).
And also need to know what goes to the mid-bottom piece.


What's an ideal wastegate to put in there(I think that hole there is for the external wastegate.


There's a hole there in the middle and I need to know what that goes to.


That's the little aluminum pipe I was talking about(Is that the main oil line?)


I need to know what goes on that mid-flange and the little fitting on the top of the mid-piece.


And a pic of my log-style manifold just for kicks.


I would really appreciate it if someone could answer some of the questions I asked on here. I'm having a couple buddies help me out with the turbo install(they actually know about this stuff. lol) but I just want to know in advance so I know what I need to get, such as the wastegate, which one's the best?, etc. I will be researchingthis but figured I just ask anyway to be on the safe side. It's easy to say "go search and research", but if you are not auto-mechanically literate, then it can be a bit difficult. Most places talk about turbos like you already know what everything means so it's hard to find a place that talks about things in detail for people like me that don't know all the terminology and such. Thanks for any help.

2nd pic, with the vacuum lines: That goes to the wastegate, it opens the wastegate when the boost get's high enough. The other one you can probably run to your BOV (to hold it closed until it needs to operate).

The aluminum line on the top should be your oil feed line. Make sure that when you install the turbo, this is at the top. The flange opposite of it is your oil return, that needs to be a big line running to your oil pan and needs to be on the bottom of the turbo when it's installed.

The "mid-bottom" peice looks like the water feed line, and then the hole opposite of it would be the water return, I think. It looks like (if this is used) they only were using oil to cool it.

For the wastegate, you're going to need a flapper valve housing like this one:

And then a T3 internal wastegate like this one:

Or, have a plate bolted over it with your downpipe like this flange:

if i buy an external wastegate like that, i would need another flange welded onto my manifold, right? or does that go somewhere on the turbo? thanks.

also, if im not going to be water-cooling it and just oil cooling it... i would need to run oil lines to the water feed and return lines? or is there a place i can go and read about how to setup a water feed system? thanks.

Yes, you'll need to weld in another flange, and then an exhaust pipe from the wastegate down to hook up with the exhaust system further downstream. All high-powered applications use external gates.

Do not just oil cool, use the water system if at all possible. Just T a line from one of the coolant lines near the thermostat housing and hook the return up down into the lower radiator hose. It'll take a little fabricating but will result in a cooler-running, longer-lasting turbo.

o, ok. so for the water-cooling, it'll run off the radiator cooling system for the engine. thats cool. i have 2 questions doc. when you say to T the cooling lines. as far as i know, theres only 2. the big hose that goes from the rad to the engine up top and the big one that goes back to the rad from the engine down low. so i have to T that? lol. that's a big ass T! lol. i'm going to label everything on the pics tonight so you guys can tell me if everythings correct. i just wanna make sure im doing everything right. and also, does it matter which opening is used on the turbo to enter and exit oil(feed and return). can i flip it upside down? cuz i see some people with 7aftes on here have the exhaust side facing different ways. thanks.

edit: and does it matter where on the manifold, i weld the flange? thanks.

if i was you i'd just get the needed parts to assemble the internal wastegate....overall it will be better for your setup and you won't come near exceeding the performance abilities of the internal wastegate....that log manifold you have isn't good for external wastegate due to the way it will flow......log manifolds and external wastegates just don't belong together.....

so nobody with a log mani has external gate? so if i wanted to be stubborn and put an external one on, where would i put it? thanks. and plyr. i will EXCEED the performance capabilites of an internal wastegate with my 7afe

put it anywhere but you honestly don't know much about what your doing do you?

#1) log manifold has a poor poor design to use with an external wastegate (its been done, it can be done just not very good)

#2) why would you buy an incomplete turbo?

I can't recall at the moment but I think there's a smaller line that runs up to cool the head that you can tee into easier, but yeah, that's how you could do it.

You should be able to clock the turbo any way you want, but yes, you have to use the top aluminum line as the top. Just clock it so the center bearing housing is vertical and you'll be able to put the exhaust and intake parts whichever way you want.

I don't suggest going with the external gate either, the internal one is simple, effective, and cheaper. However, if you want to, you would cut another hole in the manifold, weld a pipe in there and route it somewhere to attach the wastegate to, and that run an exhaust pipe from the wastegate to connect to your exhaust further down.

Or just leave it open and it'll sound like a real rally car!!!

interesting! how do i clock the turbo. because i want the exhaust side to be on the drivers side and the .60 side to be towards the passenger side and that would put the main oil line on the bottom. so how do i clock it? it has to be perfectly on top(the feed line)? or should it be at an angle or something? basically, i want it to be kinda like how romas had it on his. i dunno if uve seen it. but so u get an idea. yea, im going to go with internal now. i guess its not worth it since im not going to break world records or anything. lol. so let me know how to clock it. please be as detailed as you can. thanks. cmon plyr. we're a team. stop makin me feel like an idiot

I'm pretty sure you just undo those bolts and move it to which position you want. It doesn't have to be 100% perfectly vertical, no.

i don't mean to make you feel like an idiot...i'm just leaning more on you blowing up then actually running
why? because it seams like you a relying WAAY to much on the responses here then actually picking up a turbo book and reading how the system works and what you need to do.
that and your buying skillz arn't the greatest so we've seen...i just don't wanna see a 7afte blow up....which they have a very frequent common issue with blowing turbos rather fast
