Everytime I get an oil change, they tell me I need to do something because my engine is losing more oil than it should. I think I lose like a quart or something. Anyway, I'm assuming I need a new oil gasket?(can someone confirm this please?). But I'm noticing that I also have a bit of oil that seems to be coming from the two nuts that hold the valve cover in place.

i circled it in red. it just looks like theres some oil in that area that is slowly coming out. i dont think its a big deal but im going turbo very soon and want to make sure everythings perfect. so let me know what i can do about these oil leaks and how to fix it. thanks.

if the gasket was bad you would have oil comming from the bottom of the cover. Those 2 nuts should have washers under them, make sure they do. They are 10mm, just take them off and check it out.

You are most likely burning oil. 7afe's like to consume more oil with age. You would see a puddle of oil under your car if it was leaking.

I have some oil leaking around my oil pan... a few mechanics said it is probably my oil pan gasket.... but when I went to one mechanic.. they said i have a sealer and not a gasket.... Which do i have?

I went to advance and they gave me a gasket for it... Just curious if it fits??

dont use the gasket. you need silicon(spelling). i used the gasket and my oil is still leaking from my oilpan

its just silicone sealer not a gasket...i took mine oil pan apart and found out that there is no gasket but just silicone around the oil pan

My oil needs topping up each year, mine dripping from the bottom at least i think ts oil.

you should be changing your oil more then 1 time a year

A good synthetic can run a year / 10,000 miles easy and be better than most dino oils after 2500 miles.

That must be a common problem amongst the 5SFE's.....of course the whole back of my motor is still gunked up with oil from when my valve cover gasket was leaking, but lately I've noticed theres always fresh oil to be found outside my oil pan where it meets the block. Plus it burns oil like crazy, especially on these frigid mornings.

Best thing for any of us to do is keep a very close eye on oil level. Lately I keep my Mobil 1 and a funnel right in my trunk because its always burning some off....you can smell it on startup when its really cold outside.

Is it common for the engine to burn more oil when it is colder outside because I have noticed a larger drop in mine as well.

First of all, that statement absolutely blows my mind. Even with a synthetic oil, you need to change it alot more often than once a year. I cringe when I think of someone changing your oil once a year.

^ yeah there are oils that can last that long but I really dont think your going to wana leave it for a year even if is says you can.

when I had my new 5sfe swapped in it was burning oil, the shop ended up machining the head, and relacing the valve guides witch solved it just fine. (probibly overkill but they did if under warentee for the new motor)

personally i used an oil pan gasket and the sealer.

Well it's recommended that you change the oil every 5000Kms or every 6 months which ever comes first.
Oil changes can also depend on your driving style as well.
If you drive your car hard, then its safer for you to change your oil sooner.
I change mine very regularly. In fact I'm doing one today.
I do an oil and oil filter change every 2500Kms and use fully synthetic oil.

on a non-synthetic oil, it's recommended 3k miles or 3 months. I wouldn't go any longer than that even if I was using a synthetic oil.
