7A-FE's Maximum HP - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31532 37 posts Started by JoKeRkId613
Ok, they're selling a 6GCelica GT-4 about 4 hours from my house. I think the guy I talked to wants $19,000. The thing is, I looove my car. It's my first car, it looks real clean, real nice. My plans were to keep this car for as long as I could and hook it up since I don't have monthly payments on the car and bla bla bla. I love it, it's reliable. it looks awesome. I always get compliments. My plan was to turbo the 7A since I didn't want to get a 4AGZE or 3SGTE because if anything happens, the 7A here is in A LOT of cars. lol. So I can find parts easy. I've just grown extremely close to my car. The only thing I never liked about it is that it's a coupe. Believe it or not, coupes looks hot in person but in pics, they look ugly, imo. the only reason i liked the celi is cuz me myself used to confuse em with supras before i knew anything about cars.a long time ago. so i can drive the 4 hours, check the car out. i'll be the only one in florida with a true st205. and i think the 3rd in the country. but man. lol. 19,000. i know its worth it. the car is rare as hell anywhere and its fast and sexy and everything. but it'd have to make monthly payments and for 19,000 i always think damn i can get a brand new car wit that. the gt4 only has like 37000 mi tho so thats not too bad at all. or i can turbo the 7a. i know doggy has put down like 200hp or sumthin around there and other people have also. honestly, i know no matter what car i have, someone will be faster and im not trying to be the fastest. im happy with 200 reliable hp. while i have the turbo on the 7a, im going to be building another 7a, maybe hybrid. and putting the super 60 on that to have a 7agte. my question is, what is the maximum amount of hp that you have ever seen on a 7afe. remember, FE. lol. ive seen the turbo 20v 7a. think it had like 300 or sumthin. but im talkin factory 7afe with upgraded internals, the whole enchilada, excellently tuned turbo setup. whats the max hp that i can achieve from a 7afe without blowing it up. lol. ive heard a 3s can have up to like 500hp. ive searched and searched but didnt find anything. maybe im not phrasing the question right. but i just wanna know. this'll help my decision a little more. thanks.

edit: maybe the question should be, how much hp can the 7a block hold before it starts to fall apart? lol

are you REALLY considering buying that gt-4 for 19k? or are you just a kid fantasizing about it like me smile.gif be honest with yourself. also, i agree about your comment about coupes in person vs. pic. first coupe i saw was on here in pic and i was like ehhhhh, but when i saw one in person i was like damnnn lol.

realistically

lets see if i was to build a badass 7afe

i'd
1)have the cylinder's honed, bored (maybe) and if possible have it sleeved
2) balance the crankshaft and have it tuned properly
3) port and polish the head as much as possible
4) oversized valves and stiffer springs
5) custom cams
6) forged rods
7) custom 8.5:1 compression forged pistons
8) custom equal length turbo manifold
9) custom intake manifold
10) externally wastegated turbo
11) PRS4 or megasquirt standalone
12) RC engineering injectors
13) 255lph fuel pump
14) 104 octane fuel
and shoot i don't see why near 20psi couldn't be achieved and somewhere shy of 300whp
but then again this would cost somewhere near 7 thousand

lol... thats pipe dreaming.... realistically would mean that you are currently doing these things

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
the sad truth is, a stock gt4 will be faster then any turbo kit you throw on your ST.

15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
a true gt4 will beat the junk out of a fwd celica.

but think, why by a gt4 when you can get an even faster car, like an evo?
evo's are ugly, and they have 4 doors thumbsdown.gif

I will return one day.

Hell, if there was a GT-4 up here in Washington (which I guess there is a better chance of finding one over here because Japan ships most through our ports) I would Take a loan out through the Credit Union and buy that bastard that day. Then I would sell mine and start paying off a huge loan.

A GT-4 would spank almost any turbo Celica, be it a GT or an ST, because its got the AWD

Yeah, I've seen that car on there before. I'd rather just put the same motor into my car though and be able to not worry so much about putting scratches and wear and tear on a genuine ST205. Plus, you would save not only about 10 grand, but a few hundred pounds of weight by not having bulky AWD. wink.gif

3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting.
if i could afford it i would get it if its there in March i'll be done there i think i'll go test drive it

yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte
holy **** that thing is clean. i would buy it in a heart beat if i didnt have my car. just make sure you can register it and not have any issues with getting plates for it

I 2ND THAT

yea, you can register it. i talked to my friend frank who's selling the car but i changed my mind. i was seriously going to get a loan for 19,000 to get the gt4. my dad was gonna lend it to me and i wouldnt have interested which is str8 as ****. but i did some thinking. i love my car and i'd rather not get into monthly payments. im always going to love celicas so one day i'll get me a gt4. but for 19,000, you can get sooo many things and i personally always loved the supra more(to me, thats the ultimate car). i'd rather get a supra than a gt-4. i may still go drive it since i actually found out its evry close to me. i thought it was four hours away but it was more like 30 mins away. lol. so who knows. maybe i'll change my mind when i drive it. lol. we'll see. i'm nowhere near rich but if i was, i'd buy it in a heartbeat, no doubt about that.

A swapped FWD Celica would beat a GT-Four in a strait line.

A GT-Four would beat any Celica in a curvy track or rally stlye race.

I would buy a GT-Four whatever it takes if I had the opportunity.

Quite the opposite in fact. Even though the FF Celica would be lighter... traction issues alone ensures the AWD win. Think about it... you gotta have the right set-up and the right technique to even touch the low 14's to high 13's mark at 12-15psi but with a stock 3SGTE (CT26 or CT20b)... versus a stock ST205... the AWD can match FF even with the extra weight. A good stock comparison would be the Eclipse GS-T versus the Eclipse GSX. The GSX is faster because of traction off the line alone... even though both cars have the same power and the FF car has the weight advantage.

On the track... it's up to the driver... but I'd argue the ST205 is a good track car... but isn't the most agile. I got a lot of heat for saying this in the past... but I would still say the ST205's weight will hurt it on a tight curvy track more than an FF car... and since the FF car has the same engine with potentially the same power... it'll only have more power to the ground. These cars are driven very differently on the track... but weight matters more on a track than the drivetrain set-up especially when the cars make around the same amount of power.

*edited to be more clear. I was thinking two things and once and it came out wrong...;]

I did a 13.9 @ 12psi with my FWD 3sgte.

You wouldn't even believe how many guys I know with FF 250+ whp turbo cars that can't break 13's... hehehe. It comes down to doing it right... but simply put... AWD is easier.

Yes, I do agree AWD is easier. but I do believe that a swapped 3sgte fwd would take a GT4 in a 1/4. Unless someone can show me a stock ST205 that can do a mid 13 second run.

No they don't... closer to mid-low 14's... but comparing stock boost vs stock boost... they're very close. Take that... then throw in the average driver with normal tires on both cars and the AWD will be significantly faster. There's a learning curve to drag racing a powerful high torque FWD car... most people can't do it without a lot of practice on an actual strip.

Heh... my opinion VS yours... but those times are damn near identical when you look at them from a race perspective. Side by side racing... all of those cars are nose to nose. 0.1 seconds is about a bumper or a slighlty slow shift...

well in theory, if you had a stock 205 vs a swapped 205 and put them against each other at the same boost, tires, conditions, ect.. the swapped would be faster in the 1/4 mile.

now, Jeff ran a high 13 with a 185 (which as we all know is about 20 less hp than a 205) and GT4WRC ran a low 14...

If someone swapped a 205 in their 6th gen, they should have better times in the 1/4 mile.

of course, it's all opinions untill it is proven wink.gif
