smic for 5sfte - 6G Celicas Forums

Topic #31530 12 posts Started by ummmx2
hi. i have a smic i'd like to use for my 5sfte project. i was just wondering if this would be sufficient for 8-10 psi on my 5sfte.
side mount intercooler? from what? and where would you mount it?

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.
It doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Were could you put it in a Celica that would get that much air?

someone else did used a side mount on there 7afte. mount it where the fog light would go and cut slits in the wheel plastic for air flow.

most side mounds suck ass, and you can get a fmic for next to nothing on ebay these days. just do that

just wondering cuz im getting one included in this package of parts that i bought. didnt think i could use it..but since im getting it for practically free thought i would give it a chance.
bad idea,
once it heatsoaks..and it will...you'll be sending nothing but nice HOT air into your motor...not exactly ideal.

Heat soaking is a big issue, but consdier that the IC pipe of a fmic is probably easier to route
its extremely easy to run IC pipe. take your time. i centered my IC 1st. than run the pipe from the turbo to the cooler. than cooler to the TB. just take your time look for the shortest least troublesome way. on my pass side i used a hole cutted and lined the wall with a rubber hose that we slit down the side. not the pipe wont rattle or wear on it. once u get the bumper off you'll see where im talking about.

yea, that was me

it worked just fine. i would feel the intercooler after a hard drive and it be slightly warmer than ambient temps.

but i was less intellegent then, like said above, fmic's are really cheap now, just do it right off the bat so you wont have to do it again later.

I have a stock SMIC on my jetta works fine....but i am switching over to front mount once winter clears up and i can get the rest of my parts together.....but just for general knowledge my jetta runs 10psi stock on a SMIC..
and exactly how crappy is your jetta, dan???
haha j/k man.
